NHL 22 Reveals Superstar X-Factor Ability Players List

EA's NHL 22 will give 50 top players a unique special ability on the ice, called X-Factor abilities, and it's now revealed who's getting what. The upcoming title will be the 31st installment in EA Sports' series, with the developer continuing to push the franchise further with each release. The NHL 22 gameplay reveal trailer teased X-Factor abilities, and they give each player a unique edge during gameplay.

NHL 22 will see the series transition to the Frostbite Engine, with the game taking advantage of current-generation consoles to deliver a more graphically impressive hockey experience. The game's Augmented Reality Broadcast system will present players with a 3D graphic during highlight reels, projecting information such as statistics and penalty information. Facial animations are also being overhauled, with in-game players now following the puck with their eyes like real players do. NHL 22's Superstar X-Factor abilities also allow a number of players to turn the tide of any match by employing unique special abilities, such as more precise skating or greater reflexes when close to the net as inspired by the real players' on-the-rink skills.

Ahead of NHL 22's release, EA Sports has unveiled the X-Factor abilities of the title's top 50 players. While these powerful X-Factor abilities are not all explained, the names can certainly help fans guess their effect on the match.  The X-Factor abilities seem to fall into six distinct categories, based on their effect and the player's greatest quality. Shooters, Skaters, Hockey IQ, Passers, Defenders and Goalies are sure to have a unique role to play on the virtual ice in NHL 22.

X-Factor abilities are set up to be the most impactful new addition, and they are sure to make a dent in NHL 22's new game modes in a variety of different ways. Different modes will change which X-Factor abilities are available and how to unlock them, mixing up the ice hockey simulator's gameplay even more. Hockey Ultimate Team will start players off with a single X-Factor before allowing them to unlock more, while Franchise Mode will mature X-Factor Reports to track player progress and tie into additional team management systems.

NHL 22 looks to shake up the franchise with a new engine and new game modes, but X-Factor abilities look to be the title's most dramatic new addition. These unique powers will reflect the real-life skills of ice hockey's greatest players, while also providing gamers an opportunity to turn the tide of any game. There are an abundance of X-Factor abilities to choose from in NHL 22, so players can find the one that best suits their play style.
