A talented Pokémon fan has built impressive models of some of the franchise’s most noteworthy items with LEGO bricks, and has even included instructions for fellow Pokéfans to try at home. LEGO and video games have clicked well together in the past, with players making great tributes to their favorite franchises out of the beloved building toys and developer Traveller’s Tales capturing the fun of LEGO in a series of well-regarded video games over the years.
This also rings true for Pokémon, as aspiring Trainers from all around the world have built models of their favorite locations and Pokémon species using LEGO bricks. These have ranged from spot-on dioramas of the Kanto and Johto regions of the first two Pokémon generations, models of the three main starter Pokémon of Diamond And Pearl, and even some life-size replicas of iconic Pokémon series mascots like Pikachu and Charmander. Not all of these LEGO/Pokémon mash-ups consist of physical models, as one fan recently did an adorable LEGO render of the Hisuian Growlithe from the upcoming Pokémon Legends: Arceus.
Just yesterday, Reddit user eyemcantoeknees (aka the talented YouTube LEGO builder brickmill) joined in on the crossover fun by posting some pictures of their Pokémon LEGO models to r/pokemon. These consist of a Pokémon Egg Incubator, a purple Potion bottle (which is used to restore a Pokémon’s health during or after a battle), and the iconic red Pokéball that Trainers use to capture their favorite Pokémon. Additionally, eyemcantoeknees included a link to building instructions for the Pokéball in a comment below their main post, courtesy of brickmill’s Instagram account.
These impressive fan-made Pokémon models come right as Nintendo is celebrating the Pokémon franchise’s 25th anniversary this year. Throughout 2021, there have been several exciting new Pokémon game announcements, including a highly anticipated remake of Pokémon Diamond And Pearl for the Nintendo Switch and a brand-new, open-world spin-off titled Pokémon Legends: Arceus. Outside of gaming, there will be a new Pokémon anime movie titled Pokémon the Movie: Secrets of the Jungle, and Netflix has announced that it has a live-action Pokémon film to tie in with its previously announced TV series.
It's a pretty good time to be a Pokémon fan, and eyemcantoeknees’s Pokémon-themed LEGO models are a fun and well-detailed celebration of Nintendo's long-running, monster-collecting RPG series. The designs of the Pokéball, Incubator, and Potion bottle all translate pretty well to LEGO bricks, and it certainly was nice of eyemcantoeknees to include instructions for fans to build their own versions at home. Fans might not get any official Pokémon LEGO sets to go with Nintendo’s successful LEGO Super Mario board game, so fan models like the kind eyemcantoeknees builds are arguably the next best thing.
