Shazam 2 Will Include DC Intro After First Film Didn’t Confirms Director

Shazam! Fury of the Gods will include the DC Films intro after the first Shazam! film did not, according to director David F. Sandberg. As part of the DCEU, the first Shazam! movie hit theaters in April 2019 and was a modest hit for the franchise, grossing $366 million worldwide on an estimated $80-100 million budget. That was more than enough for Warner Bros. to warrant a sequel with Sandberg returning as director along with writer Henry Gayden. Production of the sequel got underway in May of this year and wrapped late last month.

Based on the DC Comics character of the same name, 2019's Shazam! follows a teenager named Billy Batson (Asher Angel) who is chosen by the titular ancient wizard (Djimon Hounsou) to be his new champion, granting him the ability to transform into an adult superhero (Zachary Levi) by saying the magic word. The film sees Billy team up with his foster brother Freddy (Jack Dylan Grazer) to take down the evil Dr. Thaddeus Sivana (Mark Strong) and the Seven Deadly Sins. Now, the sequel will see Billy and his super-powered foster family square off against the daughters of Atlas, portrayed by Helen Mirren, Lucy Liu, and Rachel Zegler.

Now, Shazam! Fury of the Gods' director David F. Sandberg confirms that the film will include the DC intro after the first film inexplicably did not. The director confirmed the news with a video on Instagram, as he appears to be screening an early cut of the film. Sandberg says "people freaked out" when the first film didn't include the signature DC intro so he made sure to include it in the sequel. He went on to joke that by the time the film releases on June 2, 2023, DC "could have a new logo or something." Check out the post below:

As Sandberg mentions, fans became frantic when Shazam! released in 2019 and it didn't include the signature DC intro that plays before many of the DCEU's films. The animated sequence includes silhouettes of iconic DC heroes, Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg, The Flash, and Green Lantern, and is then capped off by the DC logo. While fans had many theories about why Shazam! omitted the intro, Sandberg later revealed that he simply forgot to include it.

While some may find that hard to believe considering that DC, Warner Bros., or anyone working on the film probably would have brought this to his attention, Sandberg claims that no one did. Even without the iconic intro, Shazam! fared just fine at the box office and now the highly-anticipated sequel, Shazam! Fury of the Gods, is currently in post-production. Fans can rest easy knowing the DC intro wasn't overlooked this time around.
