Star Wars: Luke Finally Follows Yoda's Harshest Advice

Minor spoilers from Star Wars: War of the Bounty Hunters #4.

Luke Skywalker makes a very different choice than the one he made in The Empire Strikes Back in a new preview of the Star Wars crossover event War of the Bounty Hunters. Taking place shortly after that film, Star Wars: War of the Bounty Hunters #4 is written by Charles Soule (Daredevil, Star Wars: Poe Dameron) with artwork by Luke Ross (The Spectacular Spider-Man, Captain America) with David Messina (Angel, ROM).

The War of the Bounty Hunters has been dubbed by Marvel as its biggest crossover event, bringing in numerous series such as Star WarsStar Wars: Darth Vader, and Star Wars: Doctor Aphra. The five-issue miniseries specifically created for the event is Star Wars: War of the Bounty Hunters, which has seen Boba Fett attempting to get the frozen carbonite body of Han Solo back from the crime syndicate Crimson Dawn with the help of Doctor Aphra.

On the official StarWars.com website, a five-page preview has been released for Star Wars: War of the Bounty Hunters #4. Picking up after Darth Vader shows up at the auction for Han Solo's body, the Dark Lord of the Sith threatens the smuggler as a way to lure in Luke. While Leia tries to insist that Luke needs to confront Vader before he kills Han, Skywalker responds that he isn't ready to fight Vader face-to-face and will instead distract him using his ship. He's finally following one piece of Yoda's advice from Empire Strikes Back. Below is the complete preview along with the main cover by Steve McNiven (Marvel Knights: 4, New Avengers).

Luke previously ignored Yoda's harsh advice that he should sacrifice his friends to an uncertain fate rather than take on Vader before his Jedi training is complete. Luke instead raced off to save his friends at Cloud City. This led to a rather bleak ending and one of the darkest scenes from The Empire Strikes Back. While Luke's approach may at first seem cold to Leia here, he explains that Vader won't kill Han since he's too valuable. Vader will instead focus on what he wants most, which is Luke himself. It turns what could have been considered a cowardly action into a power play. Although, he is still taking a risk here that Vader won't simply kill Han anyway just to get to him.

There is an argument to be made that Yoda was in the wrong while Luke was in the right. This issue may serve as a counter-argument if Yoda's advice to Luke Skywalker that he finally takes works out in the end. Star Wars: War of the Bounty Hunters #4 will be in comic book stores and available digitally on September 8, 2021.
