The Arrowverse Hints At A Key Change To The Paragons After Crisis

Warning: SPOILERS for Supergirl season 6, episode 11, "Mxy in the Middle."

A recent episode of Supergirl suggested some major changes to the cosmology of the Arrowverse following Crisis on Infinite Earths, with the power of Honor being replaced by Dreams. It is unclear if this is meant to tie into the storyline of the hero Dreamer or a nod to Dream of the Endless, who is about to achieve greater prominence following the release of a Netflix series based on his series, The Sandman.

During the 2019-2020 Crisis on Infinite Earths event, seven heroes dubbed Paragons representing primal cosmic forces stood with Oliver Queen against the Anti-Monitor to rebuild reality. Using a page of the Book of Destiny, the Paragons fanned the flame that Oliver Queen ignited with the power of the Specter, giving birth to a new multiverse based upon the powers they represented. These powers were Truth, Destiny, Love, Honor, Hope, Humanity and Courage. The Supergirl episode "Mxy in the Middle" made reference to these same forces, but with one significant alteration.

Since returning to Earth from the Phantom Zone, Supergirl and her allies have contended with the schemes of Nyxlygsptlnz, a princess of the Fifth Dimension who was driven mad after being exiled into the Phantom Zone by her cruel father after she rebelled against his reign. To combat the imp princess, the Super Friends sought the help of Mr. Mxyzptlk (Thomas Lennon) who explained that Nyxlygsptlnz had come to Earth seeking the Allstone, a mystic artifact (comparable to the One Ring from The Lord of the Rings) which could give an imp total control over all reality. Mxyzptlk added that the Allstone had been broken down seven totems, tied to the forces of Truth, Destiny, Love, Dreams, Hope, Humanity and Courage, before being scattered across the universe. This mirrors the forces exemplified by the Paragons, but with Honor being replaced by Dreams.

It's possible this change is meant to tie the larger story of Supergirl season 6 into the story of Nia "Dreamer" Nal. A native of the planet Naltor, Nia inherited the prophetic dreams unique to her maternal bloodline, and learned how to harness the energy of the Dream World in various ways. Nia's story in Supergirl season 6 has seen her struggling with the vague nature of her powers and suffering a crisis of confidence, which Nyxlygsptlnz exploited to free herself after escaping the Phantom Zone only to become trapped in the Dream World. It seems likely that Dreamer will be called upon to find the Dreams Totem, which is probably hidden within the Dream World itself.

It's also possible that Dreams replacing Honor as a key Arrowverse influence could be a nod to the importance of Dream of the Endless. In The Sandman comics, the Endless are seven personifications of primal forces, more powerful than gods, who exist because sentient life believes that things like Death and Desire should have a personality governing them. Destiny is one of the Endless along with Dream (aka The Sandman) but there is no clear correspondence between the other Endless and the other five forces named by Mr. Mxyzptlk in Supergirl. Presumably this change to the Arrowverse will be made clearer as the hunt for the Allstone continues.
