Each installment in The Godfather trilogy is critically acclaimed and there are dozens of reasons why. The Francis Ford Coppola masterpieces explore the world of the Cosa Nostra in a way no other gangster movie has managed to do. And the trilogy doesn't just focus on the mobsters but on their families and associates too.
The characters that aren't "made guys" are easier for viewers to relate to since apart from acting blind to the deeds of the organized crime proceedings, they are normal citizens. As for the mobsters, they flourish in a world that only a few get to explore. Nevertheless, it's still possible for fans to spot parallels, especially when their traits are examined through zodiac signs.
12 Aries - Michael Corleone
An Aries is brave, confident, optimistic, and passionate. However, they can also be moody, impulsive, and unforgiving. No one demonstrates these traits better than Michael.
His bravery first becomes perceptible when he offers to assassinate Virgil "The Turk" Solozzo and Captain McCluskey all by himself. He later tops that by ordering hit on the bosses of all the New York families. Michael is rarely intimidated by anyone either. Regrettably, his unforgiving nature makes him unable to even forgive family members, such as his brother Fredo and his brother-in-law, Carlo Rizzi.
11 Taurus - Mary Corleone
Individuals under the Taurus constellation are patient, reliable, practical, responsible, and devoted. Their faults are fewer but they are also bolder and a good number of them can be spotted in Michael's daughter, Mary Corleone. These include stubbornness, possessiveness, and being uncompromising.
Mary lives most of her life as a responsible girl that her parents are proud of. Despite being raised in a mob family, there are no traces of evil in her. Things get a bit complicated when she becomes an adult since she insists on dating her cousin, Vincent Mancini, against her father's wishes. Unfortunately, she gets taken out by the assassin Mosca Of Montelepre before she can mend her relationship with her father.
10 Gemini - Vincent Mancini
Geminis stand out among other zodiac signs because of their ability to learn quickly and adapt to new situations with ease and dexterity. They are affectionate, as well, with their major frailties being their indecisiveness and inconsistency. That's how the future boss of the Corleone family, Vincent Mancini, is.
At first, the illegitimate son of Lucy Mancini and Sonny Corleone is a chaotic gangster with no specific goal. When Michael takes him under his wing, he adapts quickly, becoming more composed and dependable. His affectionate nature is displayed through his forbidden romance with Mary Corleone. The challenges don't deter him from trying to make it work.
9 Cancer - Archbishop Gilday
Cancers are tenacious, emotional, and persuasive. As for negative traits, they are normally manipulative, suspicious, and insecure. Archbishop Gilday is one such character in The Godfather.
Gilday has no problem breaking commandments. His persuasiveness becomes clear when he relentlessly urges the Pope to award Michael Corleone one of the church's highest honors — the Order of Saint Sebastian. He befriends the mob boss, making him think he is in his corner, only to try and swindle a whopping $600 million from him.
8 Leo - Connie
Leos are generally some of the most warm-hearted and cheerful people in existence. But like Don Vito Corleone's only daughter, Connie, they can be also stubborn and, on occasion, self-centered. This is seen after Carlo's death when Connie abandons her children and has meaningless relationships just to spite Michael.
Connie is undoubtedly one of the best non-mafia characters in The Godfather. Her marriage to Carlo triggers pity among viewers since he is not only chauvinistic and abusive but working against the Corleone family too. Despite being subjected to violence, she maintains a positive outlook on life. It's when her marriage to Carlo ends that she loses her way and Michael's efforts to set her on the right path bear no fruit, hence highlighting her stubborn nature.
7 Virgo - Tom Hagen
Virgos are not only loyal but also analytical, hardworking, and practical. These characteristics are very visible in the Corleone family consigliere and lawyer, Tom Hagen. He isn't missing a common unappealing Virgo characteristic too, and that is working too much without any play.
As a consigliere, Hagen does a great job of advising both Vito and Michael. He analyzes both business climates and relationships with other families then provides a way forward. His suggestions are rarely ignored and as a result, he helps get the family out of trouble on several occasions, most notably the senate hearings. As a typical Virgo, Hagen is rarely seen having any fun either.
6 Libra - Clemenza
Libras are cooperative and social, but when they feel aggrieved, they'll hold grudges and become vindictive. These attributes fit Clemenza to a T.
The first-ever capo of the family enjoys engaging with everyone. In fact, most of Clemenza's best quotes have come during his social interactions. He also cooperates fully with Vito and follows his commands, and when Vito declines Clemenza's suggestion to form his own family, he doesn't protest. Crossing Clemenza isn't a good idea either and Paulie finds this out the hard way.
5 Scorpio - Sonny
Scorpios are resourceful and passionate and they are also dependable people. Conversely, they have moments where they can become jealous or have a temper. One of the Corleone family's most likable members, Sonny, suits this description.
No one loves his siblings more than Sonny and he is willing to do anything to protect his sister against her abusive husband, Carlo. In his family, he was the only one that looked forward to becoming a mobster, from an early age thus demonstrating his passion. His resourcefulness is admirable too, and it's said that Sonny easily took over several territories in New York with ease.
4 Sagittarius - Senator Patrick 'Pat' Geary
Sagittarians are known to be very idealistic and generous. They can find themselves biting off more than they can chew and can be very undiplomatic. Nevada senator Patrick 'Pat' Geary is the quintessential Sagittarian.
The politician pictures a Nevada without Italian-Americans, but this view isn't logical since they run the profitable casinos in the state. He also comes off as completely unreasonable during his first meeting with Michael by demanding a bribe. But he was in over his head with this scheme and Michael forces him to pay for the gaming license himself.
3 Capricorn - Vito Corleone
Capricorns make the best managers. There are also known for their discipline and sense of sense control. On the downside, they can be pessimistic and dismissive of the opinions of others. Such is how Don Vito Corleone carries himself.
Vito grows the Corleone family from a street gang to the biggest mob outfit in America, thanks to using the Genco Pura olive oil company as a front. His discipline then sees him decline an offer from Virgil "The Turk" Solozzo to engage in the prostitution and drug business. Vito always expects bad things, as well, and this is why he predicts that someone will betray Michael.
2 Aquarius - Kay
Some of the most common Aquarian strengths are open-mindedness, innovativeness, and patience. They get angry too and can be rebellious and impatient. They can also be very sensitive. Michael's wife, Kay, shares these traits.
A graduate of Dartmouth College, Kay knows nothing about the mafia, at first, but she's willing to be part of the culture because she loves Michael. While he is in exile in Sicily, she patiently waits for him. She has her limits, though, best demonstrated by how she rebels against Michael by refusing to have more children by him and threatening to divorce him.
1 Pisces - Fredo
Those who fall under the Pisces zodiac sign enjoy the arts, but that isn't all there is to them. Like Fredo, they can trust too much and end up being victims of unfortunate circumstances.
Fredo enjoys partying and listening to music, best seen when Michael reunites with him in Las Vegas and when he and Michael chat at the gala in Cuba. He is also susceptible to manipulation, and as a result, he is roped into Hyman Roth and Don Vincent Forlenza's plan to assassinate his brother, Michael, simply because he is disgruntled about his lack of opportunities in the family.
