American Idol contestants and winners have not only gone on to become reputed singers, they've also made their presence felt in other fields, such as theatre and TV. When it comes to cinema, some of these Idol alums have established themselves as actors, like Kelly Clarkson and Jennifer Hudson. The latter even won an Oscar for Best Actress in a Supporting Role for her debut in Dreamgirls.

As for others, like Chris Daughtry and Adam Lambert, their movie credits are brief, as their music career still dominates most of their schedule. Then, there are singers like Ruben Studdard and Katie Weber who are featured in musical parts for certain feature films.

10 Trolls World Tour (Kelly Clarkson) - Available On Hulu

The sequel to Trolls finds the titular creatures meeting up with new troll tribes, each of which sings a particular genre of music. Chaos ensues between the tribes when the Rock Tribe decides to exercise its absolute control over other genres. The movie makes for an interesting musical experience with singers like Justin Timberlake, Anderson Paak, and the first-ever American Idol winner, Kelly Clarkson.

Even though Clarkson has experimented with pop and rock, she has sung her fair share of country music too. In Trolls World Tour, she gets to play Delta Dawn, the mayor and sheriff of the Country trolls.

9 Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed (Ruben Studdard) - Available On HBO Max

Scooby-Dooby 2: Monsters Unleashed finds Scooby and the Mystery Inc. gang encountering resurrected ghosts in a sleepy town. Just like its source material, the sequel is filled with goofy humor suitable for all ages.

In a surprising cameo, season 2 winner Ruben Studdard shows up towards the end. As the team celebrates their victory at a nightclub, Studdard sings a cover of the Earth, Wind, and Fire classic, "Shining Star," while the team dances casually around him. The song of choice is significant in this case as the Idol even won a Grammy for a recording of his cover.

8 Soul Surfer (Carrie Underwood) - Available On Vudu

Soul Surfer is the true story of Bethany Hamilton, a surfer who lost her arm in a shark attack. After suffering a few setbacks, she got back up on her feet and surfed again with help from her family and friends.

While AnnaSophia Robb plays the lead role, American Idol Season 4 winner, Carrie Underwood, appears in what was her acting debut. The country songstress plays a church youth ministry leader who engages in humanitarian activities and inspires Bethany to do good things in life.

7 Bohemian Rhapsody (Adam Lambert) - Available On Hulu

Bohemian Rhapsody documents the rise of Freddie Mercury and his iconic band, Queen. Apart from the usual biopic tropes, the narrative also makes way for more insight, such as the unconventional ways in which the titular song was recorded.

Even though this 2018 hit has a stellar ensemble cast of familiar faces, fans might have missed Adam Lambert's cameo, which appears in a montage for the band's first American tour. The season 8 runner-up played a truck driver with whom Mercury has a sexual encounter.

6 Dreamgirls (Jennifer Hudson) - Available On HBO Max

Inspired by the initial R&B groups of the 1960s, Dreamgirls revolves around the highs and lows of a fictional music group that is similar to The Supremes. Along with their musical fame, the film also explores the interpersonal rivalries, the racism prevalent in that era, and the corruption of record labels.

Season 3 finalist Jennifer Hudson stars as Effie White, a member of the singing group, The Dreams. Given that the movie was a musical adaptation, Hudson also had enough moments to showcase her singing prowess. One of Hudson's best movie roles, it resulted in a win at the Oscars, Golden Globes, and the BAFTAs.

5 Batman: Dying Is Easy (Chris Daughtry) - Available On YouTube

Dying Is Easy is a crowdfunded Batman fan film that features a slew of iconic Batman comic villains, such as the Joker, Hugo Strange, and Mad Hatter. When three Gotham police officers go missing, Batman is tasked with tracking down his foes to find them. But in his journey, he gets riddled with fear and guilt as he remembers his failings, like Jason Todd's death.

Season 5 alum Chris Daughtry, a self-professed Batman fan, appeared as Doctor Hugo Strange. He fits the part not only physically but he also pulls off a sinister voice with the character's signature grin.

4 Sparkle (Jordin Sparks) - Available On Vudu

Another movie inspired by the life of The Supremes, Sparkle focuses on the journey of three sisters from Detroit, each of whom wishes to make a music group in the Motown era. Given its premise, the movie's soundtrack is heavily influenced by soul, disco, and R&B.

Showcasing both her acting and singing, American Idol season 6 winner, Jordin Sparks, made her acting debut. She portrays the lead character, a passionate 19-year-old singer with big dreams. 3 The Hunger Games: Catching Fire (Alan Ritchson) - Available On Hulu

Set directly after the first installment, Catching Fire finds the Hunger Games champions, Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark, discovering a rebellion that is brewing against the corrupt Capitol. The sophomore Hunger Games movie drew rave reviews, with some considering it to be the finest of the franchise.

A former contestant from season 3, Alan Ritchson, plays Gloss, a male tribute from District 1. Even though he's a former victor introduced after the first movie, he's forced to compete in the 75th Hunger Games. As the players fight to survive, series protagonist Katniss Everdeen ends up killing him with an arrow.

2 Sing (Tori Kelly) - Available On FubuTV

Sing is an animated kids' movie and features several animals who wish to sing in a music competition but get personally affected in the process. The movie is filled with plenty of pop numbers that will excite and entertain audiences, making for a fun singalong experience.

Season 9 alum, Tori Kelly, joined the lead ensemble as Meena, a heavily talented but shy elephant who must overcome stage fright to make her presence felt in the show. Some of the songs that Kelly covers for the movie include "Hallelujah" by Leonard Cohen and "Don't You Worry bout a Thing" by Stevie Wonder.

1 Rock Of Ages (Constantine Maroulis) - Available On Max Go

Based on the Broadway hit of the same name, Rock of Ages explores the glitz and glamor of the music industry from the perspective of two singers in love. The jukebox musical plays out with some classic '80s rock anthems by bands such as Bon Jovi, and Def Leppard.

Rock vocalist Constantine Maroulis manages to sneak in the film with a cameo as a record producer. Even though it's a brief role, the star has enjoyed more fame in the realm of theatre. His most famous acting credit continues to be the lead, Drew Boley, in the stage version of Rock of Ages.
