Rosario Dawson Will Reportedly Film A Star Wars Project in December

Ahsoka Tano star Rosario Dawson reportedly films a Star Wars project in December. Dawson debuted as Star Wars: Clone Wars Jedi Ahsoka Tano in season 2 of The Mandalorian.

Ahsoka’s arrival on The Mandalorian was obviously a huge event not just for fans of the character’s animated exploits on Clone Wars but for the future of Star Wars on Disney+ as a whole. Indeed, Dawson’s character is a large part of those future plans as she is getting her own spinoff set to arrive perhaps in 2022. Among the big details already revealed about Ahsoka Tano is the arrival of Hayden Christensen as Darth Vader, a move that has fans already speculating about the possibility of Ewan McGregor’s Obi-Wan Kenobi also appearing (Obi-Wan obviously is getting his own solo show on Disney+ as well).

The reveal of Vader’s coming appearance on Ahsoka Tano was obviously big news for Star Wars fans everywhere. What hasn’t yet been revealed is when Ahsoka Tano actually starts shooting. The only report so far says the show cranks up some time in 2022. However, a little conversation on Kevin Smith’s recent FatMan Beyond Live podcast may have revealed that Dawson is ready to go to work on the show as early as December. Smith and co-host Marc Bernardin were discussing the short film Bernadin is preparing to shoot, and the discussion turned to his attempts to get Dawson to star (Smith of course has connections to Dawson as she’s in Clerks 2 and its coming sequel Clerks 3). This all led to Bernadin blurting out some information about Dawson’s schedule:

You helped me connect with someone who was going to be in the cast but couldn’t make it happen. … It was Rosario Dawson. I don’t know why we’re being circumspect about that? She’s not going to be in the movie, so it’s fine. She is the busiest lady in the world. … Only because I’m tired of not being able to say s—t, cause it’s always where you’re like, “Working on a thing. Find me in 2023." But yeah, like she was the first choice and I wanted her very very badly. But, then she read the script and loved it, but she’s like, “Listen, I’m going to be in Manhattan Beach making a f—king Star Wars show. And I can’t be in your short.” Which I was like, “OK.”

Manhattan Beach, California is of course the location of the studio where The Mandalorian and other Star Wars shows are shot. Obviously Bernadin loosely discussing Dawson’s schedule in regard to his own short film is a long way from anything solid. It also bears mentioning that the Star Wars show Dawson is apparently shooting in Manhattan Beach in December (or thereabouts) isn’t necessarily Ahsoka Tano. The Mandalorian season 3 is also underway and is expected to still be shooting until March 2022. So it’s possible Dawson will be in to shoot more scenes as Ahsoka on The Mandalorian.

An Ahsoka Tano Mandalorian season 3 return would obviously be news in itself although it would hardly be unexpected to hear the character is coming back. It is also certain that an Ahsoka Tano show is coming eventually. If that show starts shooting in late 2021, then that increases the chances of it arriving some time in 2022. Fans of Dawson’s character obviously want to see that show sooner rather than later. But it’s not like they’ll be starved for Star Wars content anyway, with The Mandalorian season 3, Obi-Wan Kenobi, The Book of Boba Fett and Andor all on the way.

Indeed with that many shows in production, Dawson could be going in to shoot some random footage that might end up in any one of them including Ahsoka Tano. It’s even possible Dawson doesn’t know exactly which Star Wars show she’s going to work on in December. Memorably, Gwyneth Paltrow has shot footage for Marvel movies she didn’t even know she was in. The Star Wars Disney+ universe at this point is becoming at least as complex as the MCU, and the grind never ends for its stars.
