The 10 Survivor Winners With The Fewest Challenge Wins

Survivor's motto is outwit, outplay, outlast. Competing and winning ensures that castaways are safe from the vote at tribal council or frees them from having to go it at all.

Some Survivor winners have had great luck in challenges, whether because they were placed on a team that worked well together or they had strong athletic ability. For example, Palau's Tom Westman and his tribe won every immunity and nearly every reward challenge prior to the merge, securing their safety and making his challenge tally much higher than that of Denise Stapley, whose tribe lost every challenge and had to be dissolved.

10 Sandra Diaz-Twine (Pearl Islands) - 7 Wins

Sandra Diaz-Twine is possibly the greatest Survivor of all time, and even has a crown to prove it. One of her royal titles is queen of the sit-out bench, as she has sat out of any challenge that she could, whether to keep her tribe strong or purely because she didn't want to participate.

On Pearl Islands, her first winning season, Sandra only collected a total of seven challenge wins. All of these wins were with the Drake tribe, as she never won an individual immunity challenge. Regardless of the success or amount of energy she put into these challenges, Sandra was still a dominant player and proved as much by winning the first two seasons she played.

9 Adam Klein (Millennials Vs Gen X) - 7 Wins

Adam Klein played a great strategic game on season 33 of Survivor, but he didn't have a record number of challenge wins under his belt when proved his case to the jury.

Adam won a decent amount of challenges pre-merge, but he didn't have as much challenge success post-merge. However, Adam was able to win one individual immunity, protecting himself from the vote. His seven challenge wins proved that a winner doesn't have to wear the necklace at every tribal council to win the game unanimously at the end.

8 Richard Hatch (Borneo) - 6 Wins

Prior to the first-ever Survivor merge, the Tagi and Pagong tribes had the same amount of immunity challenge wins, with Pagong winning two more reward challenges than Richard Hatch's Tagi.

Post-merge, Rich's ally Kelly Wiglesworth dominated the individual challenges, making her more of an obvious threat and allowing Richard to smartly hide in her shadow while calling all of the shots. He was the first one out of the final immunity challenge, removing himself from having to face the difficult decision of who to take to the end and leaving it up to Kelly.

7 Earl Cole (Fiji) - 6 Wins

Earl Cole is a legendary Survivor winner because he was the first to win the game unanimously. In the show's 14th season, Earl won in a 9-0-0 vote over his competitors, despite only having six challenge wins in the entirely of Survivor: Fiji.

Earl's original tribe, Ravu, lost a lot of challenges pre-merge, but Earl was able to survive every single tribal council that he attended. When he reached the merge, Earl never won individual immunity, but he didn't have to, because only one person cast a vote against him over the course of 39 days.

6 Jeremy Collins (Cambodia) - 6 Wins

Jeremy Collins played a perfect game on Survivor: Second Chance. He made all the right choices when it came to alliances and strategy, but he didn't need a lot of challenge wins to be successful.

Most of Jeremy's challenge wins came prior to the merge, where his Bayon tribe survived nearly every tribal council. Post-merge, Jeremy won the one challenge that counted the most — the final immunity —  and was able to eliminate his biggest opponent, Kelley Wentworth, and win the million dollars unanimously.

5 Tina Wesson (The Australian Outback) - 5 Wins

Tina Wesson played a respectable game in the second season of Survivor and proved herself to be quite the challenge beast when she returned for Blood vs. Water over ten years later.

However, in her first season, she didn't win very many challenges at all. Her Ogakor tribe went on a losing streak pre-merge, only catching a break due to a medical evacuation right before the merge. Tina also didn't win any individual immunities, but she did win the family reward that allowed her to virtually chat with her loved ones back home.

4 Vecepia Towery (Marquesas) - 4 Wins

Vecepia Towery won the fourth season of Survivor in a 4-3 vote over Neleh Dennis way back in 2002. Vecepia's original tribe, Maraamu, lost the first four challenges, thus becoming regulars at tribal council.

Vecepia survived, however, and was able to remain an under-the-radar player for the remainder of the game. Despite her lack of success in team challenges, she won two individual immunities and was able to ensure her safety in some of the most crucial moments of the game.

3 Denise Stapley (Philippines) - 4 Wins

It wasn't Denise Stapley's fault that her original tribe on Survivor: Philippines was cursed. The sex therapist gave it her all in every competition, only to be let down by the rest of her team.

Because the Matsing tribe lost the first four challenges, Denise and Malcolm were the only two left standing and ended up being dissolved and placed on the remaining tribes. Denise didn't fare much better on the Kalabaw tribe, as they lost the next two challenges leading up to the merge. Because of her lack of wins, Denise had to rely on her social connections and strategy alone, and she certainly did a good job because she ended up being the sole survivor.

2 Natalie White (Samoa) - 3 Wins

Natalie White's Foa Foa tribe was nearly obsolete by the time the merge rolled around on Survivor: Samoa. In fact, the only challenge she won post-merge was one of the group rewards.

Despite winning only three challenges over the course of 39 days, Natalie emerged victorious as the winner of her season over her closest ally and notorious Survivor villain Russell Hantz. Natalie proved that she didn't need to be successful in the physical competition to win the game. She may be a polarizing winner, but she still took home the win nonetheless.

1 Chris Underwood (Edge Of Extinction) - 3 Wins

There was no way that Edge of Extinction winner Chris Underwood could win a lot of challenges back on season 38. After all, he was the third person voted out and only competed in six challenges prior to his elimination.

However, he was able to win challenges when it counted, like the re-entry competition on day 36. He also won the final immunity challenge, even though he gave up the necklace so that he could compete against his greatest opponent Rick Devens in fire. Chris was ultimately successful and ended up winning the season because of those crucial wins.
