What We Do in the Shadows Season 3 Finale Trailer Teases Nador's Journey

WARNING: The following contains SPOILERS for What We Do In The Shadows season 3

The trailer for the What We Do in the Shadows season 3 finale teases a new journey for Nandor. Based on Taika Waititi and Jemaine Clement's eponymous 2014 Kiwi-cult film, What We Do in the Shadows began airing on FX in 2019. The show focuses on a new crop of vampires -  Kayvan Novak's Nandor, Matt Berry's Laszlo, Natasia Demetriou's Nadja, and Mark Proksch's Colin Robinson - as they interact with the modern world and other supernatural beings on Staten Island. Harvey Guillén also stars as Nandor's forsaken familiar Guillermo, although he has sort of transformed into the lead of the series after embracing his vampire hunter-Van Helsing DNA. The series has received high critical praise; its current season 3 is much loved by fans, and a season 4 has also been ordered.

Clocking a 100% approval rating on the review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, What We Do in the Shadows season 3 has delivered quite some surprises over the past two months. When the show began, it touched a new chapter in Nandor's immortal life, as he set forth on his quest to find love after being single for 700 years. His first crush, the gym receptionist Meg, however, did not reciprocate his feelings because of her sexuality, while his other romantic interest, Gail, ditched him out of a fear for commitment. Disillusioned by the heartbreaks, Nandor joins a wellness cult, but Guillermo rescues him and brings him back home. In the penultimate episode of season 3, "A Farewell," Nandor decides to enter a "Super Slumber," hoping to wake up into a new world. But his hibernation is again interrupted by Guillermo, who wants him to be present for the final moments of a dying roommate.

Now, FX has dropped a preview for the What We Do in the Shadows season 3 finale "The Portrait," which is due to air on Thursday, October 28, and it teases Nandor's next move after his failed attempt at undergoing the "Super Slumber." Per the clip, in the finale, Nandor will leave Staten Island, and head on a new globe-trotting journey to "rediscover his groove." He will sign off his duties as the leader of the Vampiric Council, a decision that won't particularly go down well with his roommate and co-leader Nadja, and undertake a new "Eat, Love, Prey journey" of rediscovery. As the promo suggests, a frantic Guillermo will try to stop Nandor from taking the drastic step, but all in vain.

While the new video does follow up on Nandor's dilemma from episode 9, it avoids any mention of the other big twist for the episode. Last week, What We Do in the Shadows dropped a major bomb, when it killed off its dull-but-ridiculously hilarious energy vampire, Colin Robinson. It was revealed during that episode that Laszlo had fostered an unlikely friendship with Colin because he had found about his species' lifespan from vampiric literature. He, nevertheless, chose not to reveal the truth to his roommate as he wanted his last days to be the best ones of his life. Right now, there are many theories suggesting that Colin Robinson isn't really dead, but they remain unconfirmed until the showrunners give a proper intimation.

Nandor's decision to leave Staten Island in the season 3 finale sets up season 4 in a very interesting, yet unexpected way. It appears that when the current show ends, the vampires (and Guillermo) will all head in different directions. And it'll only be in season 4 that the characters' paths will cross again and they will reunite. Nadja and Laszlo might remain in the house as a couple, but Guillermo will presumably go back to living with his family, whom fans will see more of in What We Do in the Shadows season 4. Colin Robinson, even if alive, might not show up until the next season, and even then he may only be brought back in some other form. To see the vampires go their separate ways will certainly be difficult for the series' enthusiasts, but, this way, What We Do in the Shadows season 4 will be more wholesome as there will be multiple emotional reunions, as well as some refreshing independent storylines.
