10 Biggest Reveals From The Star Wars: Obi-Wan Kenobi Trailer

Obi-Wan Kenobi unveiled its first sizzle reel on Disney+ Day after an accidental leak the day before and gave fans the first official look at the upcoming streaming series. The reel wasn't an official trailer and didn't spoil any major elements of the show, but there were nevertheless some huge reveals for fans of the iconic character.

The sizzle reel includes a lot of concept art that gives tantalizing glimpses at the characters and worlds the series will explore, plus some clues to what the story could be. While the series won't appear until 2022, there is a lot in the trailer for Star Wars fans to dissect over the next few months.

One of the first pieces of concept art revealed in the trailer is a clearly grizzled and haggard Obi-Wan Kenobi riding an eopie, one of the many creatures that debuted in the prequel trilogy. Obi-Wan is a bit disheveled in the concept art, suggesting he may not have had the easiest time in the intervening years between Revenge Of The Sith and this series. About nine years have passed since Obi-Wan first went into the desert to protect Luke Skywalker. Judging from the gaffi stick in his pack, he may have had many brutal encounters with the Tusken Raiders.

Early speculation about the series centered on Obi-Wan Kenobi staying on Tatooine for the series. His only mission is to protect Luke Skywalker, so it wouldn't make sense to leave. He clearly does, based on statements from director Deborah Chow, who also directed some of the best episodes of The Mandalorian. The concept art also reveals an alien cityscape that is clearly not Tatooine. The art reveals a rainy city at night, with a slight Blade Runner feel to the setting, indicating it's a planet Obi-Wan visits.

More concept art indicates that one of the planets Obi-Wan Kenobi may be traveling to is Coruscant, his former post as a Jedi Knight. The art features similar architecture to the streetscape visited in Attack Of The Clones, as well as the distinctive neon lighting. This scene is different from the last one, so they're certainly different. There are many things Star Wars fans still don't know about Coruscant, a vast planet covered entirely by a single, dense city, so it's possible that this is an area that none of the movies or animated series have yet explored.

Another intriguing piece of concept art also suggests Coruscant will be a locale. Concept art in the trailer shows a huge squad of Stormtroopers patrolling the halls of what looks similar to the Jedi Temple seen in the prequel trilogy and later many episodes of the Clone Wars animated series. There are Imperial elements to the setting, such as the angled doors and red pillbox lighting, suggesting either the Temple has been changed or this is a different locale. Either way, it's clear the Empire plays a big role in the series.

One of the most intriguing pieces of concept art in the trailer suggests Obi-Wan Kenobi will be working directly with the nascent Rebel Alliance. A group of Snow Speeders is docked in an uncertain setting, attended by Rebel pilots and droids. It's likely not Hoth, as the Rebels didn't establish the base until after A New Hope.

This scene could be an indication that Obi-Wan Kenobi encounters Rebel agents who would be active in this time period, including Cassian Andor, a character who will most likely appear in the Obi-Wan Kenobi series, even if in a cameo.

Fans have known for a little while that Darth Vader would be coming back for the series, with Hayden Christensen reprising the role from the prequel trilogy. The trailer reveals that the series will also be going back to Mustafar, the planet where the cyborg Sith Lord was figuratively born. Vader is seen viewing a hologram in what is certainly Vader's Castle on the lava planet. Darth Vader made the location his base of operations after becoming a Sith, and it's been seen in numerous comic books as well as in Rogue One.

The Inquisitors are the elite soldiers the Empire uses to hunt down Jedi after the fall of the Republic. They were featured in some of the best episodes of Star Wars: Rebels. Now, thanks to concept art from the new trailer, it seems they will make their debut in live-action. Art shows a character who looks very much like an Inquisitor departing a unique starship on what is certainly Tatooine. They're accompanied by Stormtroopers and they're very likely to be on the hunt for Obi-Wan Kenobi. That may lead him to flee the planet.

Not all of the sizzle reel was concept art. There was also behind-the-scenes footage of Ewan McGregor training with a member of the stunt team. In the footage, McGregor is practicing movies with a lightsaber, ensuring that fans will see the Jedi Master take part in some more epic duels.

There isn't a lot to the footage, but the moves McGregor performs seem more in line, as they should, with those of Obi-Wan from the original trilogy than his more acrobatic dueling from the prequels.

One of the most mysterious elements of the trailer comes from the behind-the-scenes footage. As Ewan McGregor is training with the lightsaber, others are training in the background. One of them is using a lightsaber that matches that of Kylo Ren. Kylo Ren is decades from being born at this point in the narrative, but the lightsaber suggests some intriguing possibilities. Kylo Ren could appear in a vision of the future Obi-Wan experiences, or this could be the lightsaber of another character, perhaps an Inquisitor.

As cool as Kylo Ren would be, the main event of the series is the rematch between Obi-Wan Kenobi and Darth Vader. The trailer makes clear this is happening with references from McGregor and an amazing piece of concept art. Vader and Kenobi duel in what looks to be a factory setting, though it's not clear. This duel between the two, or at least an encounter between them between the prequels and original trilogy, was hinted at Return Of The Jedi, when Vader told Luke that "Obi-Wan once thought as you do" in regards to Anakin's conflicted soul.
