Supernatural: 10 Actors With A Minor Role In Supernatural And A Major Role On Another TV Show

Due to Supernatural's long run as a TV show, many actors have been employed throughout its season. The show is almost like CSI, famously known as a show that employed many actors (now famous) in minor roles. For some of the Supernatural actors, they went on to serve in major roles after their time on the show. For others, they came from major roles to perform minor roles.

There are a few actors that, while they weren't exactly a major role, they weren't exactly minor, too. Take Gordon, Claire, and Bela, for instance: these characters were on multiple episodes at times and seasons. Additionally, on cast lists, they may have been written as a starring role for their season. So, we're excluding these from the list. We're looking at the minor roles, the blink-and-you'll-miss-them roles, the roles where the actor looks familiar but you can't quite place them. We're placing them for you. Read on to see this sampling, and know that there are even more not on this list.

10 Aimee Garcia

In Supernatural Aimee Garcia played Nancy, a devout Christian and a virgin in Season 3. She works at the jail where Detective Henriksen is holding Sam and Dean. The jail is surrounded by demons, and the demons seem to be holding everyone in place for Lilith, the white-eyed powerful demon who is on her way. Like many situations Sam and Dean are often in, it seems impossible to survive. Unfortunately, once it seemed that they were in the clear, Sam and Dean having saved all and left to go on their way to the next case, Lilith arrived to kill all. This included Nancy, leaving Aimee Garcia only one episode to show her acting chops.

Luckily, Lucifer picked up the talented actress to play Ella, one of the most charming and funny characters.  Even the angels fall for Ella, and we get to see more of Garcia's solid acting.

9 Tricia Helfer

Tricia Helfer played a very confused ghost, Molly, in the second season. Molly believes herself to be alive and wants to save her husband, not realizing that he's fine, and she (though dead) is the only one truly in danger. Tricia Helfer was able to show her acting chops perhaps more than her Lucifer co-star, Aimee Garcia, since the episode centered on Molly, giving Helfer plenty of moments to shine.

While Helfer has played other important and more major roles since her time on Supernatural, a more recent one was on Lucifer. During her time on Lucifer, she actually played a double role as both Lucifer's mom and as Charlotte, the woman his mom had possessed.

8 Dylan Minnette

In Season 4, we meet one of the many examples of scary humans in Supernatural. A family moves into an old house not knowing that they will be sharing the house with two feral children, products of incest, neglect, and abuse. While the feral children may actively hate adults (killing them), they do like other children. Danny is the child that the feral girl bonds with, kidnapping him so that he can stay with her.

Danny was planned by Dylan Minnette, who later became Clay of 13 Reasons WhyClay helps move the plot forward, as he wants to find out more about the death of his crush, while the others are more content to not dig deeper.

7 Christain Kane

In the most recent episode of Supernatural in Season 15, we meet Lee, one of Dean's old hunting buddies who got out of the business. Lee now owns a bar and has a band. He seems successful and happy with his life. Unfortunately, he sacrificed a lot of other people's lives in order to get there, and Dean has to stop it.

If Lee looked familiar, it is because he once played another morally ambiguous character, Lindsey, on Angel. Lindsey is a strong force on Angel. Early on, it looked like his character could go good, but the dark-side would always pull him back. In the end, he turned out to be nearly as evil as a demon.

6 Amy Acker

Another Angel alumni also served a guest role on Supernatural. In Supernatural, Acker stars as Andrea, a newly-widowed single mother. Dean and Sam save her life, helping her and her son live to see another day and escape their family's dark history. Additionally, sparks flew between Dean and Andrea, but only for one episode.

In Angel, Acker played two roles: the charming Fred and the all-powerful Illyria. She pulled the two roles off so well, proving to us that she is one great actress.

5 Candice Accola King

Accola King served as Dean's romantic interest in a flashback episode. She was the pretty and popular high school girl that fell for Dean and famously called him out when he cheated on her.

In Vampire Diaries, she played Caroline, who started out as a pretty and popular high school girl with loads of insecurities. However, Caroline changes throughout the show, later becoming one of the most empathetic and strong characters, a fan favorite.

4 Julie Benz

In Season 1, Benz plays Layla, a woman dying from a fatal illness. Layla seeks to be healed by a faith healer, but it doesn't happen. Dean had a bond with Layla, wishing that she could be saved. Benz has acted a more major role in a couple different TV shows, most notably Angel and Dexter.

In Angel, she reprises the role that she started in Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Darla, the vampire who changed Angel and was his partner for centuries. In Dexter, she stars as Rita, a woman that is especially kind and sweet, the one that Dexter tries to live a normal life with despite his murderous ways.

3 James Marsters

In Supernatural, Marsters plays an ancient witch who has unbelievable strong magic. Additionally, he's having problems with his wife, another ancient witch. Unfortunately, their marital difficulties end up hurting and killing others.

Most famously, Marsters is known as Spike from Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel. Spike is a comic gem as well as a complicated villain and later hero. The character was one of the most enjoyable to watch.

2 Charisma Carpenter

Playing alongside Marsters, Carpenter was the wife of the ancient witch, and she was an ancient witch herself. Both were powerful and had considerable marital difficulties, which, thankfully, got worked out towards the end of the episode. It must have been a joy to work with her long-time co-star again as Carpenter was also in Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel. She played Cordelia, a popular girl who evolves throughout the show. Like Spike, Cordelia is brutally honest, and an interesting character to watch.

1 Amber Benson

Benson plays Lenore in Supernatural. Lenore is the first vampire to complicate Sam and Dean's feelings about vampires. Prior to this, they saw vampires as less than human, just monsters that needed to be killed. Lenore is a vampire who has chosen to not feed on humans, instead feeding on animals. Additionally, she is more in control of her vampire tendencies.

That soft nature shouldn't surprise us as Benson famously played the soft-hearted but strong witch, Tara, on Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Benson wasn't the only Buffy alumni to play a vampire on Supernatural. We also had Mercedes Alicia McNab (Harmony on Buffy) who played a newbie vampire in one episode that had to be taken out.
