The Boys: 10 Things We Want To See In Season 2 | ScreenRant

The Boys was one of the wildest new shows of 2019 and Season 2 of the show is already ramping up to be even more insane. The series is based on the comic book series by Grant Ennis and is set in a world where superheroes are the biggest brands in the world and a covert group sets out to keep the super-powered people in check.

While Season 2 did a great job of introducing this insane world and the various characters in it, it also left a lot of possibilities for how the show could evolve from here. With the seeds that have been planted and what we know from the comic books, the next season should be a lot of fun. Here are some of the things we want to see in The Boys Season 2.

10 The People Behind The Supes

While the superpowered individuals in the show have incredible abilities they are not the ones in charge. The first season introduced us to the Vought Corporation which handles all the superhero branding, including the world-famous group, The Seven.

The company polices the superheroes, making sure they are presented in the most valuable way to the world. We also learn that the company has been creating "supes" through experiments on babies. As we learn more about the corporation, it would be interesting to see what other skeletons are in their closets.

9 Butcher's Next Move

Season 1 of the show ended with a pretty epic cliff-hanger. For the entire season, we were under the impression that Butcher's wife was raped and killed by Homelander which was the thing that drove him to go after supes as brutally as he does. However, in the final moments of the season, we see his wife is alive and has a son who appears to be Homelander's child.

It will be very interesting to see how Butcher takes this incredible revelation. His quest for revenge has been discovered to be a lie but is he too far invested to turn back now?

8 The Boys' Past

It becomes clear very early in the series that The Boys, the group of anti-supe mercenaries, have been operating for a while. The show depicts them reforming to take on the growing threat of Homelander and the rest of the Seven.

We know that there is some bad blood left over from their previous missions together and that things ended in a bloody way. The show doesn't shy away from using flashbacks so it would make sense for a couple of episodes to let us see what happened with the boys originally.

7 More Superhero Teams

While the Seven are the main focus of the story in the comics, they are far from the only superhero team out there. Ennis created plenty of teams that all seem to be riffs on classic and well-known superhero groups from Marvel and DC comics.

There is a teen superhero group called Teenage Kix, a team of outcasts called the G-Men, and a Batman-inspired superhero named Tech Knight who has several young sidekicks. The comics had a lot of fun with these various teams and it would be great to see them brought into the show.

6 Hughie And Starlight

The show is filled with a lot of violence and gore, but that doesn't mean there isn't still time for a nice romance. The heart of the show really comes from the unexpected relationship between Hughie and Annie aka Starlight.

The relationship is unusual, to say the least. Hughie's previous girlfriend was killed by a member of the Seven and he now hunts them while Annie is a member of the Seven. Though the truth of this caused some problems, we're hoping to see their forbidden romance continue in Season 2.

5 Queen Maeve's Redemption

Queen Maeve is another member of the Seven and one of the more interesting ones. She first seems like a cynical alcoholic who is no better than her other horrible teammates, but we soon discover there is more to her than meets the eye.

More than any of the other original members of the team, Maeve seems to be the one who struggles most with the things they do. She is riddled with guilt over the choices she's made and seems to want a change. Hopefully, Season 2 will see Maeve continue to move away from the Seven and find some redemption.

4 The Deep's Change

Quite surprisingly, the most interesting character to emerge from the first season seems to be The Deep. A riff on Aquaman, The Deep is a member of the Seven who is constantly insulted by the others for his lame powers and useless crime-fighting.

When we are first introduced to The Deep, he proves what a creep he is by blackmailing Starlight into a sexual interaction. Since then, we have seen him go through a lot of changes as he is confronted with his bad behavior and kicked off the team. While the character doesn't deserve redemption, we hope the show continues this path of him being faced with the consequences of his behavior and realizing his own faults.

3 Homelander's Dark Side

Though clearly styled after heroes like Superman and Captain America, Homelander is the most terrifying character on the show. He is the leader of the Seven and its most powerful member. He is not afraid to use that power for his own desires, even if it means killing innocent people.

At the end of Season 1, it became clear that Homelander is not interested in taking orders from anyone anymore. We hope to see him slide more into insanity and embracing his own madness to become a truly epic villain.

2 Embrace The Weird

Anyone who has read Garth Ennis' comics knows he is not someone who holds back. His work is filled with the craziest imagery, humor, and violence you're likely to ever see in a comic. The show does a good job of living up to those standards, but it is still far tamer than the comics.

While there's only so much you can get away with on television, it would be nice to see the show embrace the outlandish nature of the story more. There's no need to take things seriously so hopefully, they'll let loose with the insanity going forward.

1 The Boys Vs The Seven

By the end of Season 1, it seems like the cards are all on the table. The Seven know who the Boys are and that they have been behind the recent attempts to bring them down. This sets the stage for a pretty epic showdown in Season 2.

While the show will have to pace itself before everyone comes to blows, the show hopefully won't back down from the momentum they've built up. The story is even more exciting now that both sides find themselves in an all-out war.
