New Girl: 10 Storylines That Never Should Have Ended | ScreenRant

There were plenty of marvelous storylines in New Girl. This is certainly easy to believe, as the show was able to last for multiple seasons while also cultivating a rather large audience. A lot of said storylines would build over time, which would help with the growth of many of its main characters in the process.

However, there were also storylines that the series seemed to cut far too prematurely. In some cases, one could even argue that they never should have been cut in the first place, as they offered a lot of potential for even greater moments in the series.

10 Coach As A Member Of The Gang

Coach was originally cut from the series after the pilot, as his portrayer had another obligation. However, when Coach was brought back, he definitely seemed to grow close with the group.

He would eventually end up leaving for New York sadly, and it was a big loss for the series. It seemed as though that he had finally cemented a true spot with the loft members, but it was quickly taken away from him. It would have been nice to see his character progress had he stayed for the rest of the series' run.

9 Tran As Nick's Father Figure

When Nick and Tran spent time together, it was rather wholesome. This was because of the fact that Tran essentially became a father figure to Nick. This was nice to see, seeing as Nick's father was not active in his life whatsoever.

It would have also been good to see Tran be used in a higher role as the series progressed, as Nick cared about him so deeply. It also seemed as though that Tran was somebody he felt comfortable sharing his feelings with, which certainly was not common from him.

8 Jess Working In Education

Jess was a spectacular teacher. She definitely was taken advantage of by her employers sadly, and it would eventually lead to her leaving the field entirely. This was disappointing, though, as she had finally become principal.

Jess definitely was the type of character that was needed in education. She was empathetic and worked hard to fulfill her students' needs. Seeing her randomly work with Russell in Season 7 was just entirely out of place.

7 Winston's Love For Basketball

Although it was awesome to see Winston find a career path away from sports, it was weird seeing his character completely ignore basketball later on. He literally went professional, albeit in Latvia, but he did have quite the passion for the game.

It was understandable that the series had him go down a different route, but it was strange that he would never bring the sport up at all in later seasons. It was a significant part of his life, even if he had moved on from it professionally.

6 Sadie And Jess' Friendship

At the beginning of the series, it was clear that Jess and Sadie were very close friends. Although Sadie was a side character, she was seen a decent amount in the loft at first. However, she just completely disappeared.

In fact, she was not even invited to Jess' wedding, which was entirely unacceptable. Sadie and Jess seemed to have a strong friendship, and it just went away in the blink of an eye. Also, it would have been spectacular had she became a member of the entire group.

5 Rhonda's Pranks

Rhonda's time on the show was short-lived, but she sure did pack a punch. Her affinity for pranks made her a wonderful match with Winston. In fact, she even pranked Winston into marrying her and pranked him with a baby.

This was just pure comedy that should have been explored far more. Although Winston had moved on with Aly, it would have been so cool to see him and Rhonda become good friends due to their pranking natures. It would have provided stellar content.

4 Abby In The Loft

Jess and Abby's relationship as siblings was immensely complicated. Yet, it would bring upon a ton of entertainment, even if Abby was on the show for only three episodes. It would have been interest had the show decided to have her stay.

Abby caused a lot of mayhem in her short time with the group, but it definitely was interesting to watch. She was also a character that could have been amazing to see grow, as she clearly was flawed and had much room to improve upon herself.

3 Winston And Dunston As Friends

When Dunston became Winston's partner at work, it seemed that they were a match made in heaven. This was specifically the case when it came to their similarities. It would have given the show a ton of comedy, had they made them continue to interact outside of work.

Dunston was absolutely hysterical and it would been great if he had a larger role within the series. A friendship with Winston would have been the best route for this, of course. Their lone scene of them singing "Elation" in the bar was proof of this.

2 Remy As The Landlord

Remy was such a unique character to the series. Although he was scary and intimidating at first, he quickly would change, as he expressed interest in both Nick and Jess. It would have been intriguing to see this carry over to later episodes.

Also, having Remy as a side character could have done even more for the series besides that. The gang participated in a ton of strange hijinks in the loft, so it would have been interesting seeing how Remy would have reacted to it.

1 Ferguson As Winston's Pet

The show never should have stopped the storyline of Winston and his love for Ferguson. Ferguson was not seen much before his memorial in the final season, and that was quite disappointing. At one point in time, the pair were entirely inseparable.

Ferguson also was a huge part in Winston healing from his heartbreak with Daisy, so he was a very important figure in the series. His tragic end as a character was immensely sad and never should have happened. Ferguson deserved to be in Winston's happy ending with Aly.
