The show continued its dark and twisted story for eight seasons before an ending in what many consider a lackluster way. However, after nearly a decade, the show is set to return with a revival later this year.

Many fans are likely reacquainting themselves with the show in preparation for the new season. As they relive the series, they're likely to be surprised at so many famous faces that popped up on the show over the years, from those with smaller roles to those who had significant parts to play.

10 Charlotte Rampling

Charlotte Rampling is a highly-acclaimed English actor who has appeared in a number of notable projects over the years. She has a standout role in The Verdict and received an Oscar nomination for 45 Years while she will next be seen in Dune.

Rampling had a large role in Dexter's eighth season as Dr. Evelyn Vogel. She was a psychiatrist who specializes in psychopaths. Dexter meets her in the pursuit of another killer and finds that she holds a surprising connection to his own past.

9 Ronny Cox

Ronny Cox made his movie debut in the chilling thriller Deliverance as Drew and he remained a strong presence in movies and television for decades that followed. Among his many notable roles include hero roles in movies like Beverly Hills Cop and villain roles in movies like Total Recall.

8 Colin Hanks

Though there was a time when he was mostly known as the son of Tom Hanks, Colin Hanks has established his own impressive career over the years. His first starring role was in the teen comedy Orange County with Jack Black. Since then, he has reteamed with Black in Jumanji and King Kong as well as starred in shows like Fargo and Life in Pieces.

Hanks appears as the main killer in the sixth season of the series. Travis Marshall is known as The Doomsday Killer, who commits his crimes based on biblical concepts.

7 Ray Stevenson

Ray Stevenson is probably best known to audiences for his comic book roles. He played Frank Castle aka The Punisher in the wildly violent Punisher: War Zone. Later, he joined the MCU as a recurring character in the Thor trilogy as Volstagg, one of the Warriors Three.

In season 7 of Dexter, Stevenson plays Isaak Sirko, a Russian gangster who becomes one of the season's antagonists. After calling to Miami to avenge the death of a loved one, he sets his sights on Dexter as the likely killer.

6 Peter Weller

Peter Weller is a character actor who has appeared in countless projects over the years and helped create one of cinema's most iconic heroes. Fans of the Arrowverse will likely have no trouble recognizing David Ramsey. He played one of the many superheroes on the series as John Diggle aka Titan, a role he reprised in Supergirl, The Flash, and many other Arrowverse shows.

Ramsey has a multiple-season arc as Anton Briggs. While Briggs starts out as a confidential informant for Debra Morgan, they soon develop a romantic relationship with each other.

3 Margo Martindale

There are too many shows to name in which Margo Martindale has appeared and stolen the show. Along with her Emmy-winning performances on Justified and The Americans, she has also appeared in BoJack Horseman where she plays "Character Actor Margot Martindale."

Some fans may know Yasiin Bey better for his ground-breaking and influential music career as Mos Def. However, he is also one of the most underrated musicians-turned-actors as he has given strong supporting roles in movies like The Italian Job and The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy.

As Brother Sam, Bey was one of the most interesting characters in Dexter's sixth season. Sam was a former criminal who became a born-again Christian, helping to reform others like him. He forms an unexpected friendship with Dexter.

1 Jonathan Banks

Some fans might not realize how many great movies Jonathan Banks has appeared in over his long and successful career. He has popped up in such classics as Gremlins, 48 Hrs, and Beverly Hills Cop. Of course, he is best known for his role as Mike Ehrmantraut in Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul.

Banks plays another authority role in Dexter; he appears in the show's third season as the Deputy Director of the FBI who comes to oversee the investigation of the Bay Harbor Butcher.
