10 Fictional Characters That Would Make The Best Doctor Who Companions

Doctor Who has had a variety of characters joining the Doctor on his travels through time and space and many of them have been able to wonderfully complement the beloved British character's eccentric nature, developing strong relationships that fans cherish from each era.

While companions like Amy Pond and Rose Tyler have all been iconic in their own ways, it is interesting to point out similarities in their personalities with characters from other movies and TV shows, leading viewers to wonder how some of these other characters would interact with the Doctor and navigate the wild adventures they go on.

From the very first episode of iZombie, Ravi is shown to be an incredibly smart and observational character, which would definitely be an asset as a companion. He successfully figures out that his coworker, Liv, is a zombie right off the bat, and he then proves to be a supportive friend.

He is also very enthusiastic and nerdy about the abnormal situations he falls into on iZombie, so he would love the crazy encounters he and the Doctor would face in their travels. Overall, Ravi's charming and witty persona would have great chemistry with the Doctor, creating a fun and comedic TARDIS team, but he would also be an intelligent problem solver when they inevitably run into trouble.

Between her appearances in Captain America, What If...?, and Agent Carter, Peggy has proven herself to be a strong and independent character who never wants to be underestimated. She isn't one to shy away from doing what's right, and she often shows compassion to those in need. These traits would all make her a fantastic companion to the Doctor as she would do whatever she could to save people on their journeys.

Peggy also wouldn't be one to just let the Doctor push her around, so it would be nice to see her put the Doctor in his place when he steps out of line. Her intelligence and bravery would make her an incredible asset in times of trouble, especially if she found herself without the Doctor and had to take charge.

Mulder has definitely seen his fair share of shocking phenomena, and he has always stood up for what he believes in, no matter how bizarre it may seem. He would not only be fascinated to witness so much alien activity but would jump at the chance to travel in time and space.

His work with Scully on all the strange cases they encounter gives him plenty of opportunities to explore his theories, and traveling with the Doctor would actually prove some of them correct. He's also shown himself to be very intelligent and a good problem-solver, which would be very helpful in the crises he and the Doctor would run into.

Astrid is no stranger to encountering unusual or otherworldly events, and working as a lab assistant to Walter Bishop in Fringe gets her up close and personal with the cases that she and her team must solve. She also develops a familial relationship with Walter, becoming a very close friend to him while making sense of his scientific ramblings and nonsensical outbursts.

Her dynamic with Walter is similar to the relationship that Twelve and Bill have, so it would be interesting to see her own interactions with the Doctor. She would also get the chance to apply all the knowledge she gained from working on fringe cases to the various situations she falls into with the Doctor.

Michael J. Fox's memorable performance as Marty McFly in Back to the Future is beloved for his fun persona and on-screen chemistry with Doc Brown. Marty's wit and charisma would easily bounce off of the Doctor's matching energy and would certainly make for some fun adventures.

While the TARDIS is a much different time machine than the DeLorean, Marty would make an excellent addition to the team. He knows how to handle time travel, especially when things don't go as planned, and he would likely develop a close friendship with the Doctor similar to his relationship with Doc.

While Aimee may not be the smartest, she is one of the kindest characters in Sex Education. Her loyalty and selflessness would prove to be incredible assets to the TARDIS team as she would always care about the people they save, and this nurturing personality would complement the Doctor's wonderfully.

Also, though she may be ditzy, Aimee has grown to be more independent and open about her opinions, which would definitely come in handy when faced with some of the difficult decisions the Doctor's companions often have to make. Her overall likability would attract not only the Doctor to her but also the people they encounter on their travels, and she could easily form trusting relationships with those in need of their help.

Ever since his introduction in Ant-Man, Scott has won over fans with his charming personality and for being one of the most genuine and nicest characters in the MCU.  His witty nature would make him a fun companion to the Doctor, and his compassion would drive him to help the many people they meet on their travels.

Scott is also a skilled fighter and a quick thinker, which would fantastically match the heroism of the Doctor. It would be even more intriguing to see the various ways his Ant-Man suit could work in his favor during the chaos they would land themselves in.

While Tree may be sick of time travel after being stuck in a time loop (twice), she has learned how to handle herself in unexplainable situations like time crises and alternate dimensions. Though she can be unconventional in her approach to handling dilemmas, this would just make her even more entertaining to watch as a companion.

Tree's motivations partially lie in her compassion for her friends and family, and this would likely cause her to develop a very trusting relationship with the Doctor. Not only would they be great friends, but Tree's charm and sass would also make them a pretty comedic duo.

Amy is an excellent detective who also has a fun side and knows how to handle unpredictable partners, as shown by her relationship with Jake on Brooklyn Nine-Nine. Since the Doctor can be extremely erratic and wacky, Amy would know how to have fun while also keeping him in his place.

While Amy's detective skills have never been tested with anything non-human, it would be very interesting to see her push herself in these new situations. It may take her a little while to adjust to the Doctor's world, but she would no doubt find a way to adapt and solve cases the same way she always would.

Glenn remains a fan favorite on The Walking Dead largely due to his charisma and loyalty to his friends. He is also very quick-thinking and resourceful in times of crisis, of which he's had his share, and these would be brilliant assets as a companion.

His ability to think on his feet and problem-solve is a necessity for those traveling with the Doctor. Judging by his skills in navigating the zombie apocalypse, Glenn's usefulness in unusual situations would contribute greatly to the TARDIS team.
