90 Day Fiancé: Season 2 Star Jason Hitch Dies From COVID-19 Complications

Awful news was revealed on Wednesday that 90 Day Fiancé star Jason Hitch has passed away at age 45 due to COVID-19 complications, and fans are stunned. Though the 90 Day Fiancé season 2 cast member was sometimes controversial, this is surely a devastating loss for his family, friends and fans. Jason stayed out of the spotlight after his time on the show, but he will forever be a franchise star.

90 Day Fiancé season 2 explored Jason’s relationship with Cassia Tavares, a Brazilian woman 15 years his junior. During the show, Jason lived with his father, Ron, and their many dogs. Even though he and Cassia had a lot of conflict, they eventually got married. However, things didn’t settle down after the wedding, and in 2017 the couple separated for the first time. After a few months, the couple reconciled, but the next year an explosive fight occurred that ended with Cassia calling the cops. Cassia and Jason ended up filing for divorce twice before finally breaking up for good. But surprisingly, after the breakup the two stayed on good terms.

Jason’s sister, Shannon, revealed the news to TMZ that Jason had died on Tuesday night at a hospital in Florida. Jason was reportedly not vaccinated and had no preexisting medical conditions, and the cause of death was complications from COVID-19.  His family was able to be by his side and hold his hand as he passed. Shannon also implied that there could be “other factors” that contributed to Jason’s death but didn’t elaborate. Jason’s ex-wife, Cassia, has not yet commented.

It’s unfortunate that Jason wasn’t vaccinated, and his death will probably be controversial among fans who have been critical of the 90 Day Fiancé star's response to COVID-19. Many cast members were slammed by viewers for not taking the lockdowns and quarantine seriously, and after the vaccine became available, fans mercilessly dragged franchise stars who spread false information and were outspokenly anti-vaxx. Jason’s death is tragic for the people who knew him, but there could be backlash from fans who feel his death was preventable.

Jason’s death has definitely stunned many fans because it’s the first loss of a major cast member in the 90 Day Fiancé franchise. The fact that his death was also due to COVID-19 will likely ruffle a lot of feathers among viewers with strong opinions either for or against the vaccine. Unfortunately, the 90 Day Fiancé season 2 star's passing is a reminder that the virus can and does take otherwise healthy people, and it is Jason’s friends and family who will sadly now have to suffer his loss.
