Tom Holland Wants A Spider-Man & Captain America Team-Up

Tom Holland is absolutely on board for a team-up between Spider-Man and Anthony Mackie's Captain America if the opportunity ever arises. 2021 has proven to be a big year for both Holland and Mackie. Back in the spring, Mackie starred in the Disney+ series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, which finally turned his Sam Wilson into the new Captain America. He's next slated to appear in the still-unscheduled Captain America 4, which indicates Marvel has some exciting plans ahead for him.

Holland's Peter Parker, meanwhile, is about to embark on his biggest move adventure yet. Set to arrive later this week, Spider-Man: No Way Home picks up with Peter following the events of 2019's predecessor, which ended with his identity being revealed to the world. When his attempt to reverse what happened goes horribly awry, a multiversal crisis opens up and brings numerous past Spider-Man villains into the MCU. From Green Goblin (Willem Dafoe) to Electro (Jamie Foxx), Spider-Man: No Way Home is filled to the brim with homages to what came before.

Though No Way Home was briefly hyped as a potential conclusion for Holland's Spider-Man, recent comments from producer Amy Pascal have indicated there could be more ahead for him. Assuming this means he's staying in the MCU, one has to hope he could team-up with other heroes like Captain America. Holland, for his part, is interested in it, as he revealed recently while talking to ComicBook.com. Referencing Mackie's previous jokes about the Spider-Man ride at Avengers Campus in Disneyland, Holland said this:

"Listen, I love Anthony Mackie. If there's a Spider-Man/Captain America team-up down the line, then we should absolutely make that happen. You know, he can brag about beating me on my own ride – which I haven't actually ridden yet – but until he's got his own ride, he's got nothing. He doesn't have a leg to stand on."

Earlier this year, Mackie visited Avengers Campus and tried his hand at the Web Slingers ride, which is an interactive attraction where visitors can rack up points by shooting malfunctioning Spider-Bots. Mackie challenged Holland to beat his score, and Holland's new comments were in response to that. Ever since the two starred in Captain America: Civil War together, they've enjoyed a playfully antagonistic relationship.

Most recently, Holland teased Mackie over the lack of a Falcon movie, a recurring joke between them. Now that Mackie has been promoted to Captain America, though, he's getting a bigger spotlight, so Holland just might be eating his words soon. Considering how funny their interactions were in Civil War, it would be a lot of fun to see Spider-Man and Sam team-up in a future MCU movie. Hopefully the powers that be are able to make it happen, if only so that Holland and Mackie can share a screen once again.
