Zombies vs. Robots Comics Return to Print For First Time in a Decade

The hit comic series Zombies Vs. Robots is returning, over a decade after it was first released. Chris Ryall and Ashley Wood's Eisner-nominated series will now be available for fans to revisit - and new fans to enjoy. Image Comics will republish four stories in a new series of issues: ZvRC: Zombies Vs. Robots Classic.

Zombies Vs. Robots released in 2007. The first graphic novel presented an apocalyptic story about robots trying to save humanity after a zombie infection led to ruin. This story expanded into several miniseries, additional short stories, and an ongoing comic series from IDW Publishing in 2015. It's been a few years since fans last saw the series, but it could be on the road to a comeback.

An announcement from Image Comics reveals that the classic series will be published once more. ZvRC: Zombies Vs. Robots Classic will be available from Image Comics as well as Syzygy Publishing - an imprint from the series' creators, Chris Ryall and Ashley Wood. The remastered series will begin publishing in March 2022. There will be three new covers illustrated by Ashley Wood, as well as a blank cover. Check out the covers here:

In a press release, Image Comics says, "each issue of ZvRC will present an iconic tale and feature...new stories and additional material, too, as well as the multi-part, entirely untrue Secret History of Zombies Vs. Robots." The first issue will include an origin story and "an all-new back-up tale in the spirit of a Kanigher/Kubert war comic, and more!" Whenever a new Zombies Vs. Robots story releases, it tends to up the ante on the story. Sometimes these stories add to the history of the world presented and sometimes they continue the battle between zombies and robots.

According to Zombies Vs. Robots writer, Chris Ryall:

Zombies Vs. Robots was the title where Ash and I first found our shared creative footing. Now the title is finally in our sole control, which is exciting and invigorating. We can't wait to not only re-present some little seen ZvR stories but also add all kinds of new chapters to this quite ridiculous saga as well.

Zombies Vs. Robots was one of the best-selling original comics in IDW Publishing's arsenal and it led to numerous spin-off stories, as well as an Eisner nomination. It is interesting to see that it has found a new home with Image Comics and that it has become more of a creator-owned endeavor than it previously was. The first series centered on robots and a baby, while the next added in Amazons. There is no telling what else will come to the world of Zombies Vs. Robots. Fans can see what has been added to the series' overall story fifteen years after it was first published when ZvRC: Zombies Vs. Robots Classic #1 releases March 30.
