Does The House With A Clock In Its Walls Have A Post-Credits Scene?

The House with a Clock in Its Walls is a kid-friendly supernatural horror movie based on the children's book of the same name, but does it have a post-credits scene teasing a sequel based on other books in the series? From horror master Eli Roth, the director moves away from R-rated fare for a family-friendly adventure in The House with a Clock in Its Walls. The film stars Jack Black as Jonathan Barnavelt, the eccentric uncle of Lewis (Owen Vaccaro) who reveals himself to be a warlock. Along with the witch next door, Florence Zimmerman (Cate Blanchett), Jonathan and Lewis must find the clock in the walls of their mysterious old house before its ominous countdown ends.

The House with a Clock in Its Walls is based on the same-named book released in 1979 written by John Bellairs with illustrations by Edward Gorey. The title kicked off what would become a 12-book series of children's stories centered around Lewis Barnavelt and his family and friends. The most recent Lewis Barnavelt book was released in 2008, but since Bellairs passed away in 1991, author Brad Strickland took over co-writing then sole writing duties with the fourth book. While half of the books featured illustrations from Gorey, other illustrators also lent their talents, including Mercer Mayer and S. D. Schindler. Now, the books live on in live-action thanks to Roth's adaptation of The House with a Clock in Its Walls.

Those checking out The House with a Clock in Its Walls now that the movie has been released in theaters may be wondering if the film has an after credits scene to stick around for. While The House with a Clock in Its Walls doesn't have a post-credits scene, it does have something fun after the credits for viewers who watch through to the very end of the movie.

The film's end credits feature illustrated images based on key characters or aspects from the story - like the friendly easy chair and the winged lion topiary. It seems to be a nod to Gorey and the other illustrators who worked hard to provide etchings for the Lewis Barnavelt books. And at the very end of the credits, the illustrated characters come together for an animated sendoff to movie viewers.

Of course, fans of the Lewis Barnavelt books may be a little disappointed that Roth's The House with a Clock in Its Walls doesn't feature a post-credits scene directly setting up a sequel. However, the movie does set the stage for further exploration of the characters created by Bellairs. For instance, The House with a Clock in Its Walls features actress Vanessa Anne Williams in the role of book character Rose Rita Pottinger, who becomes more involved in Lewis' magical exploits in the second book. Still, a sequel to The House with a Clock in Its Walls is largely dependent on the film's success, so it remains to be seen if the further adventures of Lewis Barnavelt are explored in another movie. Until then, fans of the books and the movie will find something fun at the end of The House with a Clock in Its Walls - just not a full post-credits scene.
