New Star Wars 9 Set Photos Tease Jungle Planet Location

New set photos from Star Wars: Episode IX showcase a jungle planet. The last installment of the Skywalker saga has been in production for a little over a month now, with director J.J. Abrams and Lucasfilm doing everything in their power to keep the movie's secrets under wraps. They have been transparent about a few things so far (namely, the film's stacked ensemble), but a number of details are still locked away in the mystery box. Still, there's only so much even someone like Abrams can do in the age of social media.

Last month, Star Wars 9 fell victim to set leaks when unofficial photos depicting Finn, Poe Dameron, and Chewbacca on a mission made the rounds online. Those pictures didn't reveal anything much in regards to spoilers, but it illustrated to fans that they should be on the lookout (or avoid, depending on one's point of view) for leaks during what's set to be a long filming process for Abrams' team. Now, another batch of images have popped up, showcasing one of the movie's locations.

Coming to us via Making Star Wars are some set photos taken from Black Park in England, where Episode IX is currently shooting. The landscape of this planet is most definitely a jungle or forest - quite similar to Endor in Return of the Jedi.

With Abrams (helmer of Force Awakens) calling the shots, the easy joke here is that Episode IX is going to be a soft remake of Return of the Jedi, but it's still too early to make that claim with any seriousness. There's no denying these will raise a few eyebrows, but viewers should reserve judgement until this planet's role in the story is revealed. Making Star Wars has heard rumors there's a cave on the world that leads to a Rebel base, suggesting this could be a remote planet where the Resistance have set up shop. Some people have also spotted what looks to be the Millennium Falcon at Black Park, so it certainly looks like the heroes have some business to take care there. Since it's been reported Finn and Rey spend most of the movie together, it'll be interesting to see if Rey has anything to do with Finn and Poe's mission. She's adapted nicely to flying the Falcon with Chewie, after all.

Unfortunately for audiences, it'll still be a while before anything official is released. Episode IX production runs through February 2019, and the marketing campaign likely won't begin until Star Wars Celebration next spring. Even then, a probable teaser trailer won't unveil too much, so this is just the beginning of what will be a long and winding road to the film's theatrical premiere in December 2019.
