A new Supergirl season 4 trailer offers the first look at some of the new allies and enemies that the Girl of Steel will shortly encounter. With a little over a month to go before the series starts its fourth season, fans are anxious for any sign of what awaits Kara Zor-El in the coming year.
The third season of Supergirl ended on a sinister note, despite having a largely happy ending as Kara Zor-El (Melissa Benoist) and her friends triumphed over the villain Reign and saved the life of Samantha Arias - the innocent single mother who was unknowingly transforming into the Kryptonian villain. Unfortunately, all vestige of friendship between Supergirl and scientist Lena Luthor (Katie McGrath) evaporated during the battle with Reign and Lena began secretly researching the properties of Harun-El - a rare Kryptonian mineral with odd energy properties. The final episode also ended with a group of soldiers in Siberia confronting what appeared to be a clone of Supergirl, seemingly created through Supergirl's interaction with the Harun-El during the final battle with Reign.

The new trailer, which can be viewed below, was released on The CW's official YouTube channel. It does not reference any of what occurred in the previous season, focusing instead on a series of vignettes showcasing the new cast members, as Supergirl (in her secret identity of Kara Danvers) talks to her new co-worker Nai (Nicole Amber Maines) about the nature of fear. The new trailer also reminds viewers of Supergirl's move to a new time slot on Sunday evenings.
Though none of the characters profiled in the trailer are named, they present a number of familiar faces to regular television viewers. In addition to Nicole Maines, who will be playing the new transgender hero Dreamer, the trailer also offers the first look at Rhona Mitra (The Strain) as Mercy Graves - Lex Luthor's former bodyguard and the leader of a new "humans first" political movement. The trailer also reveals Smallville alum Sam Witwer, both in and out of costume, as Agent Liberty - a jingoistic vigilante, who will lead a hate-group called The Children of Liberty against Supergirl and her allies in the DEO (Department of Extranormal Operations.)
Unsurprisingly, the new season of Supergirl is expected to be politically-driven, drawing inspiration from recent current events as well as the classic Superman story Red Son. In addition to addressing the return of the Cold War conflict between Russia and the United States, the series is also introducing the character of Manchester Black - a telepathic anti-hero who tried to challenge Superman's idealistic morality. Manchester Black is expected to do the same to Kara, when she finds herself facing seemingly ordinary people who are inspired to violence out of a fear of the unknown. The only thing certain about this new season so far is that it will keep people guessing and talking.
