IFC Films lands rights to Jamie Lee Curtis thriller An Acceptable Loss

According to Variety, IFC Films has successfully acquired the US distribution rights to director Joe Chappelle’s female-driven political thriller drama An Acceptable Loss, led by Jamie Lee Curtis and Tika Sumpter. The film is scheduled to have its world premiere at the 2018 Chicago Film Festival.

The film stars Curtis as Rachel Burke, Sumpter as Libby Lamm along with Ben Tavassoli (Overlord) and Jeff Hephner (Peppermint). It was produced by Colleen Griffen of CorradoMooncoin with Candy Straight and Laura K. Lewis serving as executive producers. The film’s production was shot in Chicago.

“It took many talented folks and one gorgeous city, Chicago — to produce this riveting female driven thriller that confronts morality in our modern political landscape,” said Griffen, “very grateful to partner with IFC on the release for ‘An Acceptable Loss.’”

An Acceptable Loss follows former top U.S. security adviser Elizabeth “Libby” Lamm as she confronts the ethical implications of past decisions made under the leadership of Rachel Burke who is a commanding an politician with an unwavering knack for achieving her goals. The film was formerly titled as The Pages was also written by Chapelle.

Curtis is best known for her iconic role as Laurie Strode in the 1978 film Halloween which is her first feature film. She is set to reprise her role in the upcoming sequel which is set to premiere on October 19. Sumpter has appeared in comedy films such as What’s Your Number? with Chris Evans and Anna Farris; and the 2012 romcom Think Like a Man; and Ride Along starring alongside Kevin Hart.

IFC Films is planning to release An Acceptable Loss in January.
