The eponymous Christine McConnell is a long-time Instagram favorite whose lavish gothic themed candy creations have gone viral numerous times. She has done sponsorship deals for big brands and major studios, which involved delights such as making Alien: Covenant themed cakes and snail croissants. When it came time for her to create her own show, McConnell told Eater that she wanted something different from the genre's usual fare:
"I think 300 production companies or something had reached out, and they all wanted to do a reality-based show. And I don’t really watch that stuff mostly — I mean I have a few guilty pleasures — but I’m much more into scripted TV and storylines, and things like that."
The end result, The Curious Creations of Christine McConnell, is a cross between a cooking-lifestyle show, The Addams Family, and Hannibal. McConnell plays an exaggerated version of herself who lives in a giant haunted house populated with strange creatures – including a werewolf, a sarcastic Egyptian cat god and a reanimated raccoon (all puppets courtesy of Brian Henson) – and who enjoys making delicious deserts in-between other macabre exploits. Not many cooking shows have a narrative but this one does, and it perfectly parodies the cheesy artifice of regular cooking shows where the hosts have supposed friends spontaneously drop by for dinner on what is clearly a studio set pretending to be their home. If you’re a lover of the gothic aesthetic and kitschy series like The Addams Family or Dark Shadows, this is the cooking show for you.
The Curious Creations of Christine McConnell Season 2 Hasn't Been Confirmed Yet
As of the time of writing, The Curious Creations of Christine McConnell has not yet been renewed for season 2. The series was released with little fanfare in a busy month and is not typical Netflix fare, so it may be tough to gauge its popularity with subscribers. It could prove perfect Halloween viewing alongside Netflix’s other seasonal exclusives, such as the premiere of The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina and the second season of Castlevania.
If there is a renewal for Curious Creations, expect it in late-November; Netflix usually takes six-to-eight weeks to decide whether a new season is worth it.

The Curious Creations of Christine McConnell has opportunities to expand that most cooking shows don’t. Its narrative and characterizations can be expanded upon, its world extended beyond Christine’s haunted house, and its scope increased in dramatic ways unfamiliar to the world of lifestyle programming. There’s great potential for more guest stars – burlesque star Dita von Teese stars in the first season as Christine’s friendly ghost roommate – and new options for bigger cakes, greater baking challenges, and even spookier creations.
In a chat with Bustle, McConnell talked about her plans for a second season:
"I have a new idea every 2 seconds. For me, The first season was a learning experience and I feel like there was so much that we just didn’t have time to do that could be amped up so much bigger for another round, so I’m crossing my fingers."
The Curious Creations Of Christine McConnell may still be awaiting its fate on Netflix, but with Halloween just around the corner, it could prove the perfect tasty accompaniment to the streaming service's month on spooky premieres, as well as signal further growth in their reality and lifestyle programming.
