Avengers 4 Rumor: Marvel Has A VERY Different Marketing Plan

Avengers 4 may be marketed in a very different way than other Marvel Studios movies, which could impact what's revealed in trailers and posters. After a massively successful 2018 marking the 10th anniversary of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Marvel Studios will return in 2019 with three more big films. First will be Captain Marvel, the studio's first female-fronted solo movie, then Spider-Man: Far From Home will wrap up 2019 by kicking off Phase 4. However, arguably the biggest 2019 Marvel release is Avengers 4 - a movie being kept so under wraps that the studio hasn't even released the official title yet.

Marvel Studios is, of course, known for their secrecy and Avengers: Infinity War was the most secretive Marvel movie yet. But it appears Avengers 4 will put Infinity War to shame in terms of level of secrecy surrounding the project. After the cliffhanger ending of Infinity War, it makes sense for Marvel Studios to keep a lid on the followup film to avoid ruining any major surprises. However, that hasn't stopped fans from speculating about when the Avengers 4 trailer will release, or when the Avengers 4 title will be revealed. Now, Marvel may be going even more outside of the box for their marketing strategy of Avengers 4 than fans previously expected.

According to That Hashtag Show reporter Charles Murphy, Marvel Studios may be doing something "very different" to market Avengers 4 compared to the studio's previous films. On Twitter, Murphy teased something he'd heard about how Marvel plans to market Avengers 4, but didn't reveal much beyond his expectation the strategy will "stir up a LOT of conversation." See Murphy's tweet below.

Although there are a number of things Murphy could be referring to with regards to a "very different" marketing strategy, perhaps the most obvious is that Marvel Studios isn't planning to release any Avengers 4 footage in the movie's first trailer - or ALL the Avengers 4 trailers. Withholding new footage from the Avengers 4 trailers in favor of using clips from past Marvel movies, Avengers: Infinity War especially, is a tactic some fans have wanted the studio to use. But, up until this point, it didn't seem likely since that's a risk to take when marketing a movie as important as Avengers 4. With that said, after Avengers: Infinity War earned more than $2 billion at the worldwide box office in 2018, Avengers 4 is arguably the safest box office bet of 2019 and it could feasibly still be wildly successful even if the trailers don't include any new footage.

Of course, it's unclear whether that is what Murphy is referring to in terms of the Avengers 4 marketing strategy. Since Murphy doesn't reveal what the studio's strategy will actually be, fans will have to wait and see once Marvel Studios officially launches the Avengers 4 promotional push. All indications seem to point to the first Avengers 4 trailer arriving soon - Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige said it will debut before the end of 2018 - so at least fans won't have to wait too long before learning what the studio has planned for their 2019 blockbuster.
