Season 2 of AMC’s The Terror will move into a brand new story, setting, and cast, one that will feature Star Trek alum George Takei. The series, produced by Ridley Scott was initially conceived as a limited series, adapting the novel of the same name by Dan Simmons. It told the tale of the ill-fated quest by a single expedition to navigate the Northwest Passage, a journey that was ultimately undone by treacherous weather, starvation, mutiny, and a supernatural beast stalking the frozen wilds.
As is usually the case when something risky works, the powers that be are inclined to stick to the idiom: one good turn deserves another. As such, AMC and Ridley Scott have now envisioned The Terror not as an impressive limited series, but the start of a horror anthology, one that takes real-world events, fictionalizes them, and offers a supernatural addition to the historical events. And, as was previously reported, the series’ second season will take place during World War II, and will utilize the Takei’s personal experiences as a prisoner in a Japanese-American interment camp.

An official release from AMC sys the actor and activist “will work closely with the executive producers to ensure the accuracy of historical events and storytelling. On the acting side, he will play Yamato-san, a former fishing captain and community elder.” You can read a full synopsis of the second season of The Terror below:
“Set during World War II, the second season of "The Terror" centers on a series of bizarre deaths that haunt a Japanese-American community, and a young man's journey to understand and combat the malevolent entity responsible. Season two is co-created and executive produced by Alexander Woo (“True Blood”) and Max Borenstein (“Kong: Skull Island,” “Godzilla”). Woo also serves as showrunner.”
With production on season 2 set to begin in early 2019 in Vancouver, the series has already begun building out its primary cast, as in addition to Takei, the cast will feature Kiki Sukezane (Lost in Space) as Yuko, Miki Ishikawa (9-1-1) as Amy, Shingo Usami (Unbroken) as Henry Nakayama, and Naoko Mori (Everest) as Asako Nakayama.
Since The Terror was widely praised for its storytelling and performances from the likes of Jared Harris, Ciarán Hinds, and Tobias Menzies, as well as its impressive visuals that believably recreated an arctic nightmare, season 2 will have plenty to live up to. With Takei taking an important role in the new season, this anthology will hopefully avoid the sophomore slump.
