The film, written by Jordan Dunn and Michael Kvamme (The Spongebob Movie: It’s a Wonderful Sponge), will follow Ferrell’s character who, even in his middle-age years, decides to join the highly competitive e-sports community. He finds himself facing off against much younger opponents.

Keen, who is best known for his work behind the camera on hit TV shows including TNT’s Franklin & Bash, FXX’s It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia and USA Network’s Sirens, made his feature debut with the 2017 comedy Fist Fight starring 21 Jump Street‘s Ice Cube and Sunny‘s Charlie Day, which prove to be a modest financial success. He most recently reunited with another Sunny vet, Glenn Howerton, to helm the eighth episode on the second season of his NBC series A.P. Bio.

Following his lead role in the critical and commercial disaster that was Holmes & Watson, the “winner” of four Razzie awards including Worst Picture, the 51-year-old actor was last heard in the family adventure sequel The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part, which received acclaim from critics and was a box office hit, earning over $190 million at the global box office.
