One could argue the list of musical acts who have appeared on The Simpsons is more star-studded than the actual Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
The roster of musicians who have visited Springfield is legendary. Rock royalty like The Beatles and Elton John have rubbed elbows with the Simpsons family. Homer has shared the stage with U2 and Kid Rock, Bart shared a limo with 50 Cent while Lisa received advice from Lady Gaga.
However, like the hall itself, the show has its share of superstars who have yet to take the stage. Here are 10 musicians who have yet to appear on The Simpsons but we'd love to see on that famous sofa.
10 MILEY CYRUS
Just watching her various appearances on Saturday Night Live proves the former Disney star is willing to poke fun at herself. Take into account her envelope-pushing performances on MTV over the years and it's evident Miley will go the extra mile to entertain.
The Simpsons have been poking fun at celebrities and pushing the envelope since 1989 making the pairing a perfect fit. And if the current rumors about Miley's personal life are true, perhaps it's the perfect time for the singer to vacation in Springfield.
9 DAVE GROHL
If you've been lucky enough to see the Foo Fighters in concert you know they are a band that likes to have fun. Lead singer Dave Grohl comes off as well-spoken in interviews and clearly has a sense of a humor about being a celebrity. He's also got plenty of street cred. Before fronting one of the biggest bands in the world he broke on to the music scene as the drummer for Nirvana and even interviewed President Obama for his Sonic Highways documentary.
Perhaps Grohl could appear in one of the yearly Treehouse of Horror episodes. After all, he did a great job as Satan in Tenacious D in The Pick of Destiny.
8 PRINCE
Sadly this is one guest appearance we will never get to see due to the purple one's unfortunate passing in 2016. Many fans might not be aware but Prince was scheduled to appear on the show during season five in a sequel to the wildly popular Stark Raving Dad episode in which Homer ends up in a mental institution with Leon Komposky - an overweight white guy who thinks he's Michael Jackson - who voiced the character in an uncredited role.
Prince agreed to appear but apparently changed his mind after reading the script. According to showrunner Al Jean, he did not like the idea of playing second fiddle to Jackson and took offense to certain jokes about his movie career.
7 JOAN JETT
Joan Jett seems like a musician that Lisa Simpson would be a fan of. She is rebellious, speaks her mind and has found success in a field largely dominated by men - all qualities Lisa tends to look for in role models. Those examples are a way writers could introduce her to The Simpsons.
Besides being a rock and roll legend, Jett has proved she can act. Her first major role was alongside Michael J. Fox in the 1987 film, Light of Day. She has done comedy as well, appearing as herself in an episode of Ellen and a Broadway production of The Rocky Horror Picture Show in the role of Columbia.
6 BILLY JOEL
The piano man would be perfect for an appearance at Moe's Tavern. How funny would it be to have Homer and his buddies in their usual spots at the bar, trying to watch the Springfield Isotopes on TV, only to be annoyed by piano music drowning out the game? After Homer asks someone to "please shut that guy up," an apologetic Moe approaches the piano player to say, "Eh, sorry Billy, but you'll have to come back on a night the Isotopes aren't playing."
Although he may be reluctant to appear if he happened to see the episode Forgive and Regret, in which a drunk Billy Joel was one of the drivers in the Springfield Demolition Derby.
5 Mötley Crüe
Musical guests from basically all genres and sub-genres have appeared on The Simpsons over the years. Rock stars like Aerosmith and The Who, country legend Johnny Cash, alternative bands such as The Smashing Pumpkins and Sonic Youth. Boy bands were represented by N-Sync and even comedy acts like "Weird Al" Yankovic and the Smothers Brothers have appeared.
But one popular sub-genre that seems to have been completely ignored is glam rock, otherwise known as hair metal. The hair band movement dominated radio and MTV in the mid to late 1980s. And if you're going to introduce hair band rock to The Simpsons you must start with the biggest of them all, Mötley Crüe.
4 PEARL JAM
At the peak of grunge rock fever in the early 1990s, no band was more anti-establishment than Pearl Jam. They rarely gave interviews, they stopped making music videos for fear of being overexposed and they famously took Ticketmaster to court over their high fees. Back then lead singer Eddie Vedder may have bitten your head off if asked to appear on a cartoon.
But the band has since mellowed, especially Eddie. He famously appeared on one of David Letterman's final episodes - giving a rousing performance of Betterman. It was Letterman himself while inducting Pearl Jam into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, who revealed Eddie really was a big softy, saying how the rocker gifted his young son a guitar during his Letterman appearance.
3 EMINEM
Rapper Eminem is often considered the biggest rap star on the planet. You have to think at some point during The Simpsons 31-year run the producers have reached out to the rap god. But since he has not appeared, surely he must have declined? Fellow rappers Snoop Dogg and 50 Cent have guested on the show so I'm sure they could put in a good word to Marshall Mathers.
Eminem proved in the film 8-Mile that he could act. He's also shown in various MTV appearances that he has no problem poking fun at himself. Slim Shady and The Simpsons seem like a natural fit. Perhaps he's more of a South Park guy.
2 MADONNA
The Material Girl has been referenced several times on The Simpsons but has yet to actually appear. She was once the subject of a joke retold by Smithers, she was smuggled back to the United States from England in Homer's duffel bag and Lisa was once possessed by her before being exorcised by Reverend Lovejoy.
Producers have gone on record saying Madonna is someone they want on the show but have been unable to get. The Queen of Pop has crossed over into acting several times in her career with varying success. It's hard to believe she wouldn't jump at the chance to be on The Simpsons.
1 BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN
The Boss will most likely never appear in Springfield. He's apparently been asked several times and refused. Producers said on the DVD commentary he was offered the role that later went to Larry King in One Fish, Two Fish, Blowfish Blue Fish. He was asked again a year later to appear in season three's Radio Bart but Sting took the role instead. Nearly two decades later Bruce again refused a spot for the season 18 episode When You Dish Upon A Star.
It's hard to imagine why Bruce would be so unwilling to lend his voice to one of the most popular shows of all time. Especially since so many of his rock and roll peers have guest-starred, like Paul McCartney, Tom Petty, and even fellow bandmate Max Weinberg.
