Nioh 2: New Story Trailer and Post-Launch DLC Revealed

Team Ninja has released a new story trailer for Nioh 2 and announced there will be multiple DLCs coming after the game launches. Nioh 2 will be similar to its predecessor in that it will feature action RPG combat and the game is set in feudal Japan. The title is planned to release on March 13th for the PlayStation 4, and will be a prequel to the first Nioh.

In the Nioh series, players are tasked with fighting the monstrous Yokai. Players can wield all manner of weapons like swords, axes, and polearms that will aid them on their quest. Most reviewers compared the first game to the Dark Souls franchise. This is mostly because of the very dark atmosphere, difficult combat, and extremely similar game mechanics. Although they were similar in many ways, Nioh did not have a sprawling open world and players had the ability to change their combat stance at any moment in order to alter the ways they attacked enemies.

PlayStation announced today that Team Ninja had released a story trailer for the game along with several other new game announcements. The trailer shows the protagonist of Nioh 2, who is a human and Yokai offspring and therefore has been cast out of human society. The protagonist eventually loses control of their Yokai powers and comes to the realization they can use specific "Spirit Stones" to keep their powers in check. The player must then set out to track down more stones and stop them from falling into the wrong hands.

There was also a major announcement concerning future DLC for Nioh 2. There are currently three separate DLCs planned for the game that will feature all new storylines. Apparently these DLCs will actually take place before the events of this game. All of the content will also come with new weapons and armor for players to use. Players will be able to purchase the Nioh 2 season pass in order to gain access to the additional content as it releases.

In a world full of Dark Souls clones, Nioh managed to be one of the most interesting. The game took a lot of the mechanics that made Dark Souls so satisfying and added just enough to make the experience completely new. Players keep coming back to the game since it released almost three years ago, and the title remains just as fresh and interesting as when it was it came out. Hopefully fans can find something to hold them over while they wait for Nioh 2.
