Gilmore Girls has so many different types of characters, from the quirky (like Kirk and Miss Patty) to studious (Rory and Paris) to bubbly (Lorelai, of course). It makes sense that with so many unique personalities, some of the friendships on the show would feel more real than others.
Just because some characters hang out together doesn't mean that they should, but there are some other pairs who will always stay close. Here are the five best and the five worst friendships on Gilmore Girls.
10 Best: Lorelai And Sookie
Everyone loves watching Sookie St. James on Gilmore Girls, and she and Lorelai have been great friends for a long time. Their friendship is one of the best on the show as they're able to stay close despite everything that life throws at them.
This is an important relationship as they sometimes fight or point out each other's flaws and while they have hurt feelings, they don't stop talking altogether. They're true pals who know that you might not always want to hear that you're moping around after a break-up or need to put yourself out there more, but your friend is just looking out for you.
9 Worst: Lorelai And Michel
Lorelai isn't that sweet to Michel Gerard (Yanic Truesdale) even though she should definitely treat him a lot better. When they work together at the Independence Inn and, later, The Dragonfly, it feels like she's either making fun of him or simply humoring him and his quirks.
Lorelai puts Michel through a lot at work as she'll often be in a bad mood all day long, and it often feels like he wants Lorelai and Sookie to talk to him more or spend more time with him. It's only in the Netflix revival that Lorelai and Michel really seem to have a real, honest interaction.
8 Best: Lane And Rory
Lane Kim's (Keiko Agena) and Rory's friendship is a very real one and it's one of the greatest in the series. They've been close since childhood and things do change between them when Rory goes to Chilton and starts dating Dean (Jared Padalecki). But Lane is honest with Rory about it and tells her that she feels left out, and they work through it, promising to hang out and still be a part of each other's lives.
When two people grow up and change but still remain friends, it seems like nothing can tear them apart, so Lane and Rory will always be best friends.
7 Worst: Paris And Louise (Or Madeline)
When Rory arrives at Chilton, she quickly learns that like all high schools, this one has a few Queen Bees. There's Paris Gellar (Liza Weil), who isn't the most pleasant person at first, along with Louise Grant (Teal Redmann) and Madeline Lynn (Shelly Cole).
Of all the friendships on Gilmore Girls, the one between Paris and Louise is definitely one of the worst. The same goes for the friendship between Paris and Madeline as the two characters aren't that unique or indistinguishable from one another. They're competitive with each other and not very supportive or nice.
6 Best: Lorelai And Babette
Lorelai and Babette (Sally Struthers) have been next-door neighbors for a long time, and they're also old friends who look out for one another. Although they're not super close and don't hang out regularly, they do seem to have a bond that has lasted.
One of the best Lorelai/Babette moments is in the first season episode "Cinnamon's Wake" when Lorelai helps Babette get through losing her beloved cat. Babette breaks down to Lorelai and admits that she's afraid of losing her husband Maury (Ted Rooney) and says, "I never thought a man would ever even want me." It's very powerful.
5 Worst: Rory And Lucy
While it's fun to see Krysten Ritter on Gilmore Girls, her friendship with Rory isn't that interesting. She's an actress and seems so different from Rory but not in a good way.
It often feels like Rory is simply spending time with Lucy and her friend Olivia (Michelle Ongkingco) because she doesn't know anyone at Yale besides Paris. It never actually seems like Rory has made lasting friendships at Yale as she's too focused on her studies and her love life.
4 Best: Kirk And Lorelai
Kirk Gleason (Sean Gunn) is one of the quirkiest people in Stars Hollow. He holds down a number of different jobs and seems to have trouble fitting in, although everyone definitely welcomes him with open arms as he's a beloved resident of the town.
Kirk and Lorelai aren't typical friends who grab dinner once a month or text all day long. But they do spend quite a bit of time together, whether they're running into each other at Luke's or, as in the revival, Kirk drives Lorelai to Emily's house. And in one great season five episode called "To Live And Let Diorama," Kirk stays with Lorelai and acts like a child, and although she's annoyed, she does take good care of him.
3 Worst: Rory And Marty
The friendship that Rory and Marty (Wayne Wilcox) share while Rory is at Yale is pretty awkward. Since he has a huge crush on her and she doesn't feel that way about him, it gets weird watching him pine after her in every single scene.
It also feels like Rory takes advantage of him since she likes the attention and praise. She might not even realize that she's doing that, but it definitely feels that way, and it's not fair.
2 Best: Miss Patty And Babette
Of all the Stars Hollow residents, Miss Patty (Liz Torres) and Babette seem like they're the closest. They're often seen chatting (or gossiping) and they can spend hours standing and talking to each other.
If something happened to Lorelai or Rory, these two would know about it first, and they would make sure that everyone else in town heard about it, too. But these two share a wonderful friendship that never felt malicious or negative. They seem to really care about each other.
1 Worst: Logan And Finn
Rory gets introduced to Finn (Tanc Sade) when she starts learning about The Life and Death Brigade at Yale. While fans of the show love Logan Huntzberger (Matt Czuchry), they're probably not too keen on Finn, who's not that smart or mature.
Logan and Finn have one of the worst friendships on Gilmore Girls as they never grow up and are constantly goofing off and putting each other in scary situations. Finn is also kind of a jerk as he never seems to realize that he has already talked to Rory before, often asking, "Do I know you?" Logan definitely needs a better influence in his life.
