10 Upcoming Movies To Be Excited For In Spring 2020 | ScreenRant

It's nice to know that this year will see more female-led superhero movies, but having some entertaining rom-coms and detailed dramas is also great. After all, both blockbusters and independent films can contribute to the modern cinema a lot just like they can be entirely useless.

In this article, however, we will look at the most-awaited movies being released this spring that everyone will be interested in.

10 Onward - March 6th

This year, Pixar will be releasing not one but two animated feature films. Moreover, both of them will be entirely original rather than being a sequel like Toy Story 4, Incredibles 2, Cars 3, and Finding Dory that were all released in the past five years. Onward will be set in a detailed fantasy world created specifically for this film.

In this world, magic once used to be quite real, but now it seems to be gone. Two teenage elf brothers set out to return their father with the use of magic and embark on an adventure. The main characters are voiced by Tom Holland, Chris Pratt, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, and Octavia Spencer.

9 Bloodshot - March 13th

As if we didn't already have enough superhero movies, Bloodshot will be yet another one starring Vin Diesel, Eiza Gonzalez, Sam Heughan, Toby Kebbell, and Guy Pearce. As is the norm nowadays, it will be the first installment in a series of films that will create a shared Valiant Comics cinematic universe.

Marine Ray Garrison (played by Diesel) and his wife are assassinated, but Garrison is then resurrected by a group of scientists who enhance his body with nanotechnology and make him superhuman. Once he recovers his memory, he sets out to avenge his dead wife but discovers that there is more to the conspiracy than he thought.

8 Mulan - March 27th

We live in an era of Disney live-action remakes, so it is only logical that we will be getting more and more of them. In 2019, there were five live-action remakes, but thankfully, 2020 will only bring one - Mulan. The film had been in development since 2010, so you can only imagine how much time and effort was put into it.

Technically, the film is based on the Chinese folklore "The Ballad of Mulan", but it is still more of a remake of the original animated film. The film tells the story of Hua Mulan (played by Liu Yifei), who volunteers to go to the army instead of her father and pretends to be a man to fight for her country.

7 The New Mutants - April 3rd

The New Mutants has had its fair share of production trouble. Its release was postponed three times with its original release date being April 13, 2018 - almost exactly two years earlier than the current release date. Though it is questionable whether or not it will be good, fans still hope that the release won't be postponed yet again.

The film stars such rising actors and actresses like Maisie Williams, Anya Taylor-Joy, and Charlie Heaton among others. The film introduces new mutant characters - a group of five teenagers - that are held in a secret facility against their will. What is peculiar is that it will be the first X-Men horror film, though it won't be rated R.

6 No Time to Die - April 10th

It's sad to know that this will be the last James Bond film for Daniel Craig, but so far, it seems that No Time to Die might be just as good as the critically-acclaimed Skyfall and Casino Royale. Billie Eilish got to make the title song while the cast consists of some prominent names: Rami Malek, Naomie Harris, Jeffrey Wright, Christoph Waltz, and Ana de Armas among others.

Allegedly, the film is set sometime after the capture of Ernst Stavro Blofeld when Bond has left service. He is approached by his friend who is a CIA agent and wants Bond to help in the search for a missing scientist. It turns out that the scientist was abducted and now Bond has to face a danger the likes of which he has never encountered before.

5 Antebellum - April 24th

Brought to you by the producer of the critically-acclaimed Get Out and Us, Antebellum promises to be a thriller drama that will keep you on the edge of the seat. There is not much known about it and the cast and crew are fairly unknown, but considering that the person who produced it previously worked on the aforementioned movies, it could be really good.

The premise is quite simple. Veronica Henley, a successful author, is trapped in a reality that is just out of a nightmare. Now, she has to find a way out and break free from the horrors she has to face.

4 Black Widow - May 1st

One way or another, you probably heard of the latest installment in the MCU - the much-awaited female-led Black Widow movie. It will be the first of many Marvel releases expected this year, including both movies and TV shows. In addition to many female characters, there are also women working behind the camera including director Cate Shortland.

Set after Captain America: Civil War, the film focuses on Black Widow and have adventures as she goes into hiding and confronts her past. Some notable cast members include Florence Pugh, David Harbour, O-T Fagbenle, Rachel Weisz, and others.

3 Legally Blonde 3 - May 8th

It seems like 2020 is the year when old franchises come alive (though the past decade is full of such cases). In this sense, Legally Blonde 3 is quite similar to Bad Boys for Life released earlier this year. The Legally Blonde franchise is based on the 2001 novel of the same name.

The only problem with the film is that there is almost nothing known about the movie at this point, though the release date is still set for May 8th this year. The previous movies followed the comical adventures of Elle Woods (played by Reese Witherspoon).

2 The Woman in the Window - May 15th

Based on the 2018 novel of the same name, The Woman in the Window is a psychological thriller with an absolutely star-packed cast including Amy Adams, Gary Oldman, Anthony Mackie, Julianne Moore, and others. The film was directed by Joe Wright who has previously worked on numerous literary adaptations.

The movie tells the story of a child psychologist with agoraphobia, a type of anxiety disorder when a person avoids places and situations that can cause them to panic. The psychologist befriends a woman living across the street and has her life turned upside down when the woman disappears.

1 F9 - May 22nd

There is no telling when the Fast & Furious franchise will end, but there are still many fans who enjoy watching these action-packed and often illogical movies. This ninth installment in the Fast Saga will also be the tenth film released set in the Fast & Furious universe.

Set after the events of 2017's The Fate of the Furious, it follows Dominic Toretto (played by Vin Diesel) and his family who must face his younger brother Jakob (played by John Cena) who is working with their enemy and has a personal vendetta against Dominic.
