Schitt's Creek: Roland's Most Cringeworthy Moments | ScreenRant

Everybody seems to have fallen in love with Schitt's Creek - and it's easy to see why. The Roses, although irritating at first, have quickly become one of the funniest families on TV (and a surprisingly sweet one, too), and watching them attempt to navigate the small town that is Schitt's Creek is comedy gold.

However, of all the people that the Roses have to deal with in town, mayor Roland Schitt must be the absolute worst. He's well intentioned, sure, but he's also the kind of guy who just cannot take a hint, who has more than a few disgusting habits, and who has no self-awareness whatsoever. It's difficult to pick just ten, but these are some of our 'favorite' Roland moments from the show so far that made everybody cringe.

9 When He Just Didn't Get The Sign

When Johnny first sees the welcome sign for Schitt's Creek, he's appalled... because there's just no denying it, it looks like a man getting... intimate... with a woman in a river. Roland, hilariously, just cannot seem to get what the problem is, though, insisting that they are just having a lovely time, and no one should think anything dirty when they see it. Then, in true Roland style, he fixes it... by hanging a second sign on it to explain that the people on the sign are brother and sister! In his mind, this should prevent anyone from seeing it as anything but innocent. Of course, everyone knows that's not what people will think...

8 Every Time He Referenced His Sex Life

Roland has a disturbing habit of talking extremely, brutally, frankly about his sex life with Jocelyn, especially when absolutely no one asked. When he bought a mattress at an estate sale, and then sold it to Johnny, he couldn't just say they didn't like it, or it didn't fit the bedframe. Nope, he had to talk about how 'bouncy' they were. When he lends Moira and Johnny his cabin, he includes a slew of details about his sex life, too. Throughout the show he is all about the TMI... and while we can be thrilled that he and Jocelyn are so happy, he really needs to tone it down!

7 Not Understanding Jocelyn's Hints

For the most part, Roland and Jocelyn clearly have a solid marriage. She loves him (and seems to find him wildly sexy), and he is crazy about her, despite their ups and downs. However, he's also routinely clueless when she is trying to drop a subtle hint.

Roland is just so friendly that even when everyone else can clearly see that Jocelyn is uncomfortable and trying to make a point, he just breezes right past while the audience cringes. Like when Moira wants to borrow their kitchen, and Jocelyn is making up excuses to prevent her... which Roland sweeps away, welcoming Moira in and totally ignoring what his wife really wanted.

6 Waking Up Naked Next To Moira

This may have been more of a cringe moment for Moira, but we're going to include them both in this one! After heading to the Regional Association of Municipalities Conference together as they both work for the local government, Moira got exceedingly drunk... and woke up next to Roland! They didn't actually cheat, of course, but Moira was appalled... and the audience was appalled at Roland's casual nudity. He didn't even get up to put on underwear after she drunkenly got into his bed!

5 The Cookware Fetish

Watching Roland and Johnny get high together is a fan-favorite scene in the series, but Roland definitely made viewers cringe with his well-intentioned attempt at understanding what Johnny was telling him about David. Johnny was attempting to talk about David's pansexuality, but Roland assumed that that meant he had a 'cookware fetish'. Props to the guy for not judging someone for wanting to get it on with an actual pan, though...

4 Trying To Buy Jocelyn Clothing

More of Roland's sex life getting unnecessarily divulged for this one, as Roland dragged David to the blouse barn to try and get a little something for Jocelyn. At first, it seemed sweet, that Roland wanted to buy his wife a nice outfit and asked for some help!

However, this is Roland, so it couldn't stay cute... instead, Roland had to explain their costumed roleplay in far too much detail, and then still expected David to help him pick out her outfit for it! The man just has no shame...

3 Eating Fondue With His Hands

As well as being utterly lacking in subtlety, Roland is definitely lacking in table manners, too. When Moira and Johnny go over to Roland and Jocelyn's house for dinner, they are shocked by the sheer volume of cheese on the table... and by how Roland eats it! He chooses to eat with his hands, even from the shared fondue pot, leaving melted cheese all over his fingers... and of course, continuing to dip them back in to the pot that everyone is sharing. We're not sure if this made fans cringe, or just plain gag!

2 Every Time He Brings Up His Mayorship

This one is a little more of a gentle cringe, as clearly, Roland doesn't actually have that much to brag about... so he is going to milk that mayoral title for all that it's worth! Throughout the show, Roland constantly drops little references to his position as mayor, to the fact that he 'upholds the law', and even to the fact that the town is named after him. It's not subtle, it's rarely relevant, and it's just a little bit of a cringe - although it is sweet that he is so proud of his town and his place in it.

1 His Terrible 'Jokes'

Roland is the kind of guy who just loves to joke around - and it doesn't matter what other people think. He's constantly telling wild jokes at completely the wrong moment, and pushing them way too far. It may be hilarious to see how this rubs Moira and Johnny the wrong way, but Roland's concept of when a joke is over (or when it is appropriate in the first place) is just so totally off that it's enough to make anyone cringe!
