There's going to be a new leader of Hydra, one of the most sinister organizations in all of comics. In the upcoming Falcon and Winter Soldier miniseries, Hydra is set to return in a big way, as Sam Wilson and Bucky Barnes are going to have to unmask their newest leader before things hit the fan. But, just who is the villainous figure pulling the strings?
Hydra's had a handful of different leaders since it came into existence. Most famously, the organization was led by the Nazi Johann Schmidt, the Red Skull, who worked under Adolf Hitler and commanded the first big wave of Hydra soldiers. Key members include the war-hungry Baron Von Strucker, Madame Hydra, Armin Zola, Baron Zemo and most recently, Captain America. Over time, the group has been defeated by Marvel heroes and managed to come back - they even infiltrated SHIELD after staying in the shadows for years, as seen in Captain America: Winter Soldier. In Secret Empire, an alternate version of Captain America led a Hydra resurgence. Unfortunately for our heroes, Hydra is making about to make another comeback.
In a preview for Falcon and Winter Soldier #1, the return of Hydra is teased. However, it's not a familiar foe leading the charge, as Bucky Barnes and Sam Wilson will have to deal with a new mysterious Hydra leader who's trying to execute terrorism in a mass casualty event. Falcon and Winter Soldier will have to work together to stop the pending threat. But, just who is the new Hydra leader? It's hard to make a guess. It really could be any villain who's appeared in Marvel Comics over the years. Could it be a former Hydra member looking to run things? Teases for issue three of the upcoming series show a Captain America impostor seemingly running things, however, whether that's actually the case remains to be seen. Also, it would be shocking if that was the previous Captain America from Secret Empire given the controversy of the previous iteration.
