Vanderpump Rules is one of the most entertaining reality television series around because it provides such consistent relationship drama. While many reality television shows have relationship drama, the cast of Vanderpump Rules often brings it to the next level because they all have dated each other.
While some of the relationships, such as Tom and Ariana’s, have been surprisingly sweet, many of the others are truly toxic. Issues with infidelity, codependency, and alcoholism often present and have made for some truly messed up romances throughout the eight seasons of the show.
10 Kristen and Carter
Of all the people in the series, Kristen might be one of the most unlucky in love. She has yet to have a boyfriend that was really good to her. While Kristen clearly has her issues, she usually dates guys that don’t treat her well.
While Carter might not be her worst boyfriend, it’s been made clear that he’s using her somewhat for her money while not really giving her much support in return. He seems rather checked out of the relationship.
9 Kristen and Tom Sandoval
Kristen's' relationship with Tom is another bad relationship she has been in, but she definitely wasn’t the victim here. They were both awful to each other in turn, and they clearly weren’t right for one another.
They both cheated on each other, and they spent much of their relationship arguing and having dramatic fights and make-ups. They clearly did the right thing when they broke up, and, even though it took Kristen a long time to move on, it seems that they are generally cordial with one another now.
8 Katie and Tom Schwartz
Katie and Tom might be one of the only couples so far that have gotten married, but this doesn't mean they always have a good relationship. They have had some truly toxic moments. Leading up to their wedding, these two were at their worst. Tom has cheated on Katie, and Katie lashes out in cruel ways.
It’s also clear that they both tend to say very hurtful things when they argue. While now they seem to be in a better place, at least on camera, they’ve never really had smooth sailing as a couple.
7 Lala and James
Lala and James have had one of the most confusing and complicated relationships on the show. Their romantic relationship was rather short-lived and mostly just physical as they never actually dated.
They then became close friends only for that to end horribly and to now be on bad terms. James’ issues with alcoholism, and Lala’s at points, lead to some fairly volatile and cruel fights between the two of them. It’s clear that their romantic relationship was never meant to be.
6 Stassi and Patrick
Stassi is another woman on the show who has had a host of awful boyfriends. While she is now with a good guy who treats her well since she started dating Beau, every boyfriend she had before him was awful. Patrick was clearly a jerk who emotionally manipulated her and put her down constantly.
He seemed to have very little respect for her or women in general, and the way he talked to her was awful. The only reason he’s not higher on this list is that Stassi had two boyfriends that were somehow worse than him.
5 Stassi and Frank
Patrick was definitely a piece of work, but Frank was even worse. This is because of the fact that he literally took a sex tape Stassi had sent him while they were dating and threatened to post it online if he wasn’t paid off. This just shows how much of a gross person he was. But, even before this, he treated Stassi pretty poorly and was clearly just pretending to be nice to her at first to get on the show and get some attention.
4 Scheana and Mike Shay
Scheana and Mike Shay were the first couple to get married on Vanderpump Rules, but their marriage didn’t last very long. It was clear from the start that they weren’t a great match as Scheana had a big personality and Shay always just seemed to be going along with it.
They just didn’t match each other well. When Shay had struggles with substance abuse, Scheana handled things pretty poorly by wanting Shay to still be able to drink sometimes. But, Shay also lied to her and left her for days at a time without telling her what was going on, so it was a good thing when things ended for them.
3 Jax and Stassi
While Stassi has had some pretty awful boyfriends, Jax might be the worst. While Frank is pretty high up there, Jax was using Stassi for years. He was basically cheating on her all along, and he even got a girl pregnant in Las Vegas while they were dating but never told her about it.
Then, after she broke up with him, he slept with Kristen even while trying to get back together with her. Stassi might not have been an easy person to live with, and she had some huge flaws while she was dating Jax, but Jax was a serial cheater who lied to her all the time.
2 Jax and Brittany
This might be one of the most controversial inclusions on this list, but the evidence is all there. Brittany might not always be as sweet as she acts, but she is genuinely a much better person than Jax deserves. When Jax cheated on her with Faith, it was a new low even for him.
Then, he strung her along and pretended to work things out with her only to be the one to break up with her. Before all of this, he was often very critical of her and implied she was overweight and that her job was to make him sandwiches. Even since his alleged change into being a good person, he has shown very little indication that he actually genuinely loves Brittany, and their couples therapy sessions have been very revealing into his anger issues.
1 Kristen and James
Kristen and James had one of the most volatile relationships on Vanderpump Rules which is really saying a lot given the nature of how these cast members tend to act. They would get in big fights where they would scream at each other, and one time Kristen even hit him.
On the other hand, James got physically in her way during that same fight. He would also verbally abuse her rather cruelly, and even after the break up spit on her door. For Kristen’s apart, she was very obsessed with James after the break up to an unhealthy level.
