Westworld season 3, episode 2, "The Winter Line" confirms two new Delos parks. Unsurprisingly, however, there's a twist, as one of the Delos destinations is not entirely like the other. In fact, neither are open to the public in the HBO series, at least not in the 2058 setting of Westworld season 3.
Although Westworld is Delos' flagship park and the first one that was built by Arnold and Robert all those years ago, there are other parks as well. Westworld season 2 introduced two more parks: The Raj, a park that takes place in India during a time in which it was occupied by the British, and Shogun World, set during the Edo period in Japan, particularly under the Tokugawa shogunate. The Raj allowed its guests to engage in luxury and hunting animals, while the Shogun World was an option for a more brutal experience, specifically for people who found Westworld too tame.
Westworld season 3, episode 2, "The Winter Line" introduces two more parks, although viewers don't get to see the second one themselves. Furthermore, one of the parks is merely part of an illusion so it may not actually exist in the real world.
Teased in the Westworld season 3 premiere, Warworld is prominently featured in "The Winter Line." But it's not a typical Delos park, despite an opening sequence that shows Maeve aka Isabella trying to escape World War II Nazis with Hector Escaton (Rodrigo Santoro), a Westworld host who now goes by Vittore. After leaving the park and conversing with Lee Sizemore (Simon Quarterman) behind the scenes, Maeve comes to the conclusion that she's in a simulation. Her body was dumped after the Westworld massacre, and her consciousness was placed inside Warworld - a simulation park that protects the Rehoboam system of none other than Serac, who needs help to re-establish order upon Dolores' unpredicted arrival. In the original Westworld movie, there's a similar Warworld park called Medieval World, at least in terms of the in-universe battle premise.
As Maeve realizes that something weird is going at Warworld, Bernard and Stubbs arrive at a near-empty location known as "Park 4," which is revealed to be a shut-down park with a Game of Thrones theme. The remaining techs are waiting to be laid off, and one of them references a possible start-up in Costa Rica. In a clever twist (or perhaps not so much), the men are actually Game of Thrones showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss. And they sit next to a host dragon - which opens up a big can of worms in terms of what's possible moving forward.
Bernard and Stubbs then make their way through the empty Park 4, hoping to locate Maeve's whereabouts. There are various nods to Game of Thrones production design, including costumes and characters playing the series theme song. But which featured park in "The Winter Line" will ultimately be the most relevant for the rest of Westworld season 3? Based on fan reactions, it seems that Warworld is far more popular than Park 4.
