For a character who doesn’t kill anyone or physically attack anyone, Regina George from Mean Girls is considerably evil. As far as high-school girls go, she might be one of the most malevolent of her kind. Janis Ian even explains to Cady that “evil takes a human form” in Regina, and when viewers let some of her nastiest lines sink in, it’s easy to see why.
The comments that Regina makes clearly show that she cares about nobody but herself, does not feel guilty about being two-faced and judgemental and has no problem ordering people around like they’re slaves. Check out these 10 lines from Regina George that prove she’s pure evil.
10 “Gretchen, Stop Trying To Make Fetch Happen. It’s Not Going To Happen.”
True friends are supportive of each other’s ideas, even if they’re a little lame. That’s how Mean Girls fans know that Regina George, played by Rachel McAdams, is not a good friend to any of the Plastics. She doesn’t support them when they have creative ideas.
Case in point: when Gretchen comes up with the word “fetch.” Even if Regina doesn’t get Gretchen’s vision, a nice person would have pretended to like the word rather than shutting her down and dictating that she can’t say it anymore.
9 “Boo, You Whore.”
It’s in the simple lines that the essence of Regina George really comes out. She says this to Karen when the two are on the phone and Karen pretends that she can’t go out with Regina because she’s sick. Rather than showing concern for her friend who’s sick (she’s not really sick, but Regina doesn’t know that), Regina cements herself as truly evil by saying this rude line.
8 “Get In, Loser. We’re Going Shopping.”
It really doesn’t get any more Regina George than this iconic line: “Get in, loser. We’re going shopping.” This is how Regina invites Lindsay Lohan's Cady to go shopping with the Plastics for the first time. Not only does she call Cady, one of her “best friends,” a loser but she also doesn’t give her any choice in the matter. It’s not really an invitation so much as it’s an order. This is just further evidence that Regina George is a queen bee.
7 “Because That Vest Was Disgusting!”
The saying “sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me” isn’t true by any stretch of the imagination. Friends of Regina George know this, especially when she makes scathing remarks about their clothes.
When Regina says this, the other girls have turned against her and are trying to have her evicted from their lunch table because she’s breaking the fashion rules by wearing sweatpants on a Monday. Although she’s only defending herself, it’s still not a nice thing to say.
6 “God, Karen, You Are So Stupid.”
The interesting thing about Regina George’s meanest comments is that the Plastics don’t seem to mind when she insults them. The ruder she is to them the more they want her to like them, and this eventually applies to Cady too. After Aaron breaks up with Regina, Karen tries to cheer her up by suggesting they go to Taco Bell, but Regina responds by calling her stupid because she’s on “an all-carb diet.” The irony!
5 “I Know She’s Kind Of Socially Retarded And Weird, But She’s My Friend.”
Let it be known that if someone refers to their friends as “socially retarded and weird,” then they’re probably not a nice person, end of discussion. Regina says several horrible things about her friends behind their backs, but this is one of the worst.
Regina says this to Aaron about Cady, knowing that Cady is watching, knowing that she has a crush on Aaron, and knowing that she’s about to steal him away. Pure evil.
4 “She’s Not Going Out With Anyone.”
To get back at Jason for blowing off Gretchen, Regina makes trouble for the new girl he’s seeing, Taylor. She calls her mom and pretends to be from Planned Parenthood, insinuating that Taylor has fallen pregnant.
Although the Plastics find this funny, it’s clear how evil this move is when Taylor’s mom calls her a few seconds later and sounds very distressed.
3 “They Say You’re A Homeschooled Jungle Freak Who’s A Less Hot Version Of Me.”
The final confrontation between Cady and Regina takes place near the end of the film when Regina learns that Cady was pretending to be her friend all along to sabotage her life. Regina is obviously feeling hurt at this point, but her words to Cady are still totally cruel and showcase how evil she can be: “They say you’re a homeschooled jungle freak who’s a less hot version of me.”
2 “That Is The Ugliest F-ing Skirt I’ve Ever Seen.”
A sign of pure evil is someone who can effortlessly say one thing to a person’s face and then say something completely different behind their back, with no remorse or guilt. Regina George does this after complimenting a girl at school’s skirt, saying it’s adorable. A second later, she turns to Cady and says, “That is the ugliest f-ing skirt I’ve ever seen.”
1 “I Mean, I Couldn’t Have A Lesbian At My Party.”
Perhaps the most obvious sign that Regina George has too many sinister bones in her body is her treatment of gay people. Janis isn’t even gay, but because Regina believes she is, she is cruel to her to the point of ruining her life. This comment—the fact that she “couldn’t have a lesbian” at her party shows how little she cares about Janis’s feelings and how ignorant she is about the world.
