How To Get Away With Murder: The 10 Worst Things Nate Ever Did

The characters on ABC's hit television show How to Get Away with Murder are deeply flawed individuals. Many of them engage in a number of wrongdoings ranging from bad relationship choices to criminal acts. These rotten deeds are often overlooked as fans root for their problematic favorites. Seeing the intentions, emotions, and series of events that led characters down their respective paths certainly helps to empathize with the characters. But empathizing with a character is not the same as thinking what they did is okay.

One of the flawed individuals from this show is Nate. His character has experienced several changes over the course of the series, some for the better and some for the worse. Here are the 10 worst things Nate has ever done.

10 Sleeping With Atwood

Renee Atwood was introduced in season 3 and fans soon learned that she was dating Nate. There were several reasons this relationship rubbed fans the wrong way. The first time Nate is shown with Atwood is after a fight he has with Annalise over her relationship with Eve.

This likely means that Nate pursued Atwood out of anger and frustration with Annalise. Atwood was also the main antagonist for much of season 3, working to take down Annalise and the others. It seems wrong to jump into bed with the person trying to send your ex to jail as a reaction to your breakup.

9 Assisted Suicide

In season 1, we discover that Nate is married to a woman named Nia. Nia is suffering from stage 4 cancer and is resigned to a hospital bed. Originally, Nia summons Annalise to her hospital room and asks Annalise to help her acquire pills to end her own life. Annalise refuses and then tells Nate what happened.

Upon hearing this, Nate provides Nia with the pills to kill herself. Whether or not assisted suicide is wrong is a highly debated topic. And while Nia was suffering, Nate seemed a little too eager to provide his wife with this out.

8 Evidence Tampering

Evidence tampering is a crime of which almost every character on the show is guilty. It seems bizarre that so many people working in the legal field would engage in this crime, however it occurs again and again. Nate is no different than the rest, using his authority as police officer to cover up or meddle with evidence. He even steals Denver's files on Annalise and the gang and lies about their existence.

7 Working With Bonnie Against Annalise

During Bonnie's time at the DA, both her and Nate are incredibly frustrated with Annalise. The pair decide to work together to jeopardize Annalise's career. They collect and feed information to the DAs office that helps them during trials in which Annalise is the opposing attorney.

Nate is the mastermind behind this plan, pitching his ideas to Bonnie and even calling Oliver to hack into Annalise's phone to gather information on her client.

6 Covering Up Sinclair's Murder

The first time Nate gets involved with the cover-ups of the Annalise and the Keating 5 is after Asher murders Sinclair at the Hapstall Mansion. After a call from Annalise, he begins to head towards the scene in his police vehicle.

When he sees some of the group on the side of the road, he tells them to get into his car and drives them away from the scene. Without Nate's assistance, the group never would have been able to pull off this crime and frame Catherine Hapstall.

5 Covering Up Janie's Murder

When Annalise defends a vile client named Toby Solomon, it is revealed that he killed a young woman named Janie. Upon learning this, Annalise is conflicted about what to do. She confides in Nate about her dilemma. Nate then suggests that they frame another criminal for Janie's death.

By concocting this plan, Nate ensures that Toby gets a small sentence for the one murder the police knows about while guaranteeing he will never get charged for the death of Janie. While the criminal framed is not an innocent person, it's hypocritical that Nate assist in framing someone for a crime they didn't commit after everything he has been through.

4 Informing On Annalise

While this is not 100 percent confirmed, it is seeming increasingly likely that Nate has informed on Annalise to the FBI. This is because information that was contained in the Denver files, which are seemingly only accessible to Nate, were included in the discovery file given to Annalise in season 6 episode 11.

Nate told Annalise that he destroyed this file but his destroying it was never shown to the audience. On How to Get Away with Murder, fans know better than to believe something that is said but not seen.

3 Hurling Insults At Annalise

Annalise and Nate have had a tumultuous relationship. While it is true that Annalise has done terrible things to Nate, the way he has responded hasn't always been appropriate. In many instances, Nate has hurled harmful insults at Annalise, using her deepest insecurities against her. Annalise does not confide in many people so it is particularly vicious for Nate to then use these weaknesses against her. He has called Annalise a cancer, pathetic, unlovable, a worthless pathetic drunk, and more. It's probably best that these two just stay away from each other.

2 Affair With Annalise

When Annalise and Nate began their affair, they were both married individuals. What makes this affair even worse was the condition Nate's wife Nia was in. Instead of standing by his wife and supporting her through her final days, Nate enters into a relationship with another woman. He does admit the affair to Nia, who gives him permission to move forward as she knows she is dying, but that doesn't make this any less messed up.

1 Assault On Miller

Ronald Miller was a District Attorney who was dating Bonnie. After Nate Lahey Sr. is murdered, Nate is determined to figure out the circumstances surrounding his father's death. When he receives information that seemingly implicates Miller in the crime, Nate loses his temper. He attacks Miller and begins brutally bludgeoning him with his fists.

With Ron just inches away from death, Nate tells Bonnie that Ron is responsible for the death of his father and Bonnie finishes off the crime. Miller's death is one of the most graphic and unsettling deaths on the show. It is also revealed later that he was innocent and had tried to prevent Nate Sr.'s death, not cause it, making Miller one of the few people on the show who have died in vain.
