Friends: 10 Characters Monica Should Have Been With (Other Than Chandler)

Monica Geller definitely went through her fair share of relationships throughout the first four seasons of Friends. Of course, by the end of season four, Monica had finally found her person. Surprisingly, Monica and Chandler's relationship managed to stay relatively solid for the remaining six seasons of the show.

Fans can't help but wonder who Monica would have ended up with had she and Chandler not gotten together on that fateful night. Between guys like Joey, Pete, and Will, Monica had some pretty decent contenders. Keep reading to find out the 10 characters that Monica should have been with - other than Chandler.

10 Joey

True Friends fans know that there was an initial spark between Joey and Monica when they first met. In "The One With The Flashbacks", the series reveals that Monica and Joey were instantly attracted to one another. Of course, this chemistry was short-lived and nothing actually happened between the two, but fans can't help but wonder what could have been.

There's no denying that Monica and Joey are best friends and could have been great together. Monica likes to cook and Joey loves to eat, sounds like a match made in heaven to us.

9 Joshua

Joshua and Rachel's relationship didn't work out, but who's to say that Joshua and Monica wouldn't have made a great match? When viewers were introduced to Joshua in season four, he seemed like the perfect boyfriend. He was charming, intelligent, and mature, all things Monica looks for in a partner.

When Rachel let her feelings for Ross get the best of her, things went downhill for her and Joshua and that was the last fans ever saw of him. It's possible that viewers would have seen a lot more of this character had he been Monica's love interest instead.

8 Richard

Even though Richard and Monica were an unlikely pair at first, they quickly became a fan-favorite couple. Sure, Richard had a few years on Monica but Monica was always the most mature character so viewers could definitely see their relationship working out in the long run.

Unfortunately, these two clashed when it came to what they wanted in the future and they ultimately broke it off. Richard re-entered the picture just as Chandler was ready to propose so these two didn't get the reunion that many fans wanted.

7 Fun Bobby

In season two, fans find out that Fun Bobby was only fun because he had a drinking problem. This definitely caused some tension in Monica and Bobby's relation and the pair eventually broke it off. It's too bad too because Bobby really balanced Monica out in a great way. At times, Monica could be a tad uptight but Bobby was always able to bring out her fun side.

Fans would have loved to see Bobby get a second chance at a relationship with Monica after he worked out any lingering issues. Who knows? They could have been perfect together.

6 Pete

When Monica and Pete first met in season three, Monica revealed that she didn't have a romantic connection with Pete. However, as the series went on, Monica seemed to convince herself that she was truly interested in him. This new change of heart may have seemed like Monica was settling, but there's no denying that this pair had good chemistry.

It really seemed like these two would go the distance - up until Pete chose his UFC career over his relationship with Monica. Had Monica stuck by Pete's side through his fighting phase, these two could have been the dream team.

5 Mike

Mike and Monica never got together but they should have. In "The One in Barbados", Monica and Mike go head to head in a table tennis competition and their chemistry is extremely obvious. While it may seem like Mike is the perfect match for Phoebe, he may have been an even better match for Monica.

Both of these characters are competitive but in an endearing way, as seen in season nine during their intense ping-pong match. All things considered, it would have been awesome to see these two give a romantic relationship a shot.

4 Tag

There's no doubt that Rachel and Tag were cute together, but their relationship just shouldn't have happened. It was unprofessional of Rachel to hire Tag simply due to her attraction to him. Instead, fans would have loved to see Rachel hire someone more qualified and then set Monica up with Tag.

These two could have made a great couple as they would have balanced each other out. Monica is more mature and Tag is really easy-going, we could definitely see their personalities rubbing off on each other to create the perfect relationship.

3 Paul

It's obvious that Monica has a thing for mature guys who are ready for a serious commitment. Viewers saw this Richard but unfortunately, their relationship didn't work out due to clashing interests. This is exactly why Paul would have been a better love interest for Monica than for Rachel.

Rachel often lacks maturity and it seemed that her and Paul's relationship was doomed from the start, but things might have gone differently for Paul and Monica. Both of these characters are mature, driven and love to talk about their feelings.

2 Mark

Rachel and Mark's relationship was never allowed to progress due to Rachel's feelings for Ross. This was unfortunate for fans as it meant that Mark would essentially be written off the show. It would have been great to get to know Mark's character better so having Rachel set Mark and Monica up could have been a solid plotline.

Not only would this have reassured Ross that Rachel was not interested in Mark - putting an end to some of the Ross and Rachel drama - but it also could have been the beginning of a great relationship.

1 Will

Some of the best romantic relationships come out of the best friendships. This was seen with Monica and Chandler in season four and beyond - but what if Monica had gotten together with a different friend? In "The One With The Rumor", it's revealed that Monica and Will were close friends in high school.

When Will came to Monica's apartment for Thanksgiving, the gang relived lots of high school memories. It's obvious that Will and Monica still have a lot in common and there's no doubt that fans would have loved to see these two give a romantic relationship a shot.
