The 10 Best Duos In Arrested Development | ScreenRant

What carried Arrested Development through its three fantastic initial seasons and two disappointing Netflix revival seasons was its incredible cast of characters. The Bluth clan is filled with terrible people – even the so-called voice of reason, Michael, is self-absorbed and delusional (albeit not as much as his siblings) – and yet, they’re all so lovable.

The actors in the ensemble cast all shared palpable on-screen chemistry, with certain pairs standing out amongst the ultra-talented crowd. From parent-child pairings to sibling rivalries to attorney-client partnerships, the five seasons of Arrested Development are filled with hilarious double acts. So, here are the 10 best duos in Arrested Development.

10 George, Sr. & Oscar

Jeffrey Tambor has always done a hysterical job of playing George, Sr. and his twin brother Oscar as two separate characters. Oscar is a pothead with a straggly head of hair, because he never had a stressful job like his brother and therefore never went bald.

When George, Sr. and Oscar came to blows in their fight over Lucille’s affection, neither of them could land a punch because they thought so much alike that they made all the same moves. And on a couple of occasions, George, Sr. shaved Oscar’s head and sent him to prison in his place.

9 Tobias & Gob

Although they’re two completely different guys, Tobias and Gob have bonded over wanting some quick cash from the Bluth Company. They accidentally successfully pitched a chain of coffee shops to Michael and later named it Gobias Industries (pronounced “Go-bias,” as in “Go buy us a cup of coffee”).

When Gob needed a double for his father for an illusion he was going to use to save George, Sr. from the law, he called on Tobias.

8 Lucille & Michael

Lucille may not have been a very good mother to Michael (or any of her kids, for that matter), but all the Bluth kids grew up with her acid tongue. Lucille and Michael constantly barb each other in hilariously brutal ways.

He’s always giving her the benefit of the doubt and it always turns out to be a mistake. On the odd occasion, Lucille shows vulnerability to Michael, like when she’s clearly hurt that no one came to her birthday dinner (twice), and Michael briefly views her in a more sympathetic light.

7 George, Sr. & Barry

“I have the worst f*cking attorneys.” When George, Sr. was initially sent to prison, he followed the legal advice of his lawyer Barry Zuckerkorn, which turned out to be a huge mistake.

Barry had told George, Sr. to make Lucille the CEO of the Bluth Company, because a husband and wife can’t be tried for the same crime. Despite this and many other mistakes, George, Sr. kept Barry on the payroll and he continued to represent the family for a couple of seasons.

6 Gob & Franklin

“It ain’t easy being white...” Gob doesn’t have any actual friends outside of his own brothers (when they feel bad for him) and a bounty hunter he hired. So, the closest thing he has to a best pal is his puppet, Franklin.

Despite the fact that Gob’s lips can be seen moving even when Franklin isn’t saying anything, the two share a fun repartee. Gob used the Franklin persona to intimidate johns when he was hired by Nellie to pose as her pimp.

5 George, Sr. & Michael

Michael is desperate for the approval of his father. He’ll tell himself that he doesn’t care what his dad thinks and he wants to move on from trying to impress him, but deep down, that’s all he wants.

And George, Sr. doesn’t make it easy. He criticizes Michael for every decision he makes, which only makes Michael double down on them. As a business tactic, he used to turn down every single one of Michael’s ideas – even the ones he liked – to keep him on his toes.

4 Michael & Lindsay

At the end of the show’s third season (which, at the time, was thought to be its last), Lindsay is revealed to be adopted, so she and Michael aren’t really twins. But they were raised like twins and they share that bond.

When they get drunk together and complain about Lucille, they have a great time. But when it comes to money or business or parenting, they’re never on the same page.

3 Maeby & George Michael

When Lindsay, Tobias, and Maeby moved to Orange County, George Michael was just happy to have some family members to spend time with. As a straight-laced straight-A student with a job at the banana stand, George Michael never really likes to break the rules. As a rebel desperate for attention, Maeby breaks the rules constantly. So, George Michael learned a lot from his cousin.

One of the many pseudo-incestuous storylines on this show involves a romance brewing between Maeby and George Michael. They’re not related by blood, so it’s not quite as disturbing as Buster’s mommy issues.

2 Lucille & Buster

In the mold of Psycho’s Norman and Norma Bates, Lucille and Buster Bluth share an unsettlingly close relationship. Every year, they attend Motherboy together and compete for the title of “Cutest Couple” – and there’s even mention of “bath time.”

Lucille signed Buster up for the Army just to spite him. When Lucille couldn’t smoke in her apartment, she blew every drag into Buster’s mouth so he could transport the smoke out onto the balcony.

1 Michael & George Michael

Although he’s a lot more selfish than he likes to think, what makes Michael Bluth a likable and somewhat sympathetic character is the fact that he’s a loving, well-meaning father. George Michael is made to feel bad for getting any grade lower than an A and he’s kept away from anything fun in favor of office work, but Michael just wants what’s best for his son.

George Michael may not be particularly cool or popular, but he’s a good kid. The way that Michael and George Michael have pulled through after losing Tracey is one of the few heartfelt elements in the series.
