Parks and Rec: Why Leslie & Andy Aren't Real Friends | ScreenRant

While Parks and Rec may be over, the friendships from the show still live on. However, one friendship that we never quite understood was that of Andy and Leslie. Was it even a friendship considering their meetups were only during business hours?

Andy and Leslie are well-known for their friendships with others, like Ann or April, but there's a lot of evidence to suggest that any kind of friendship they had might not be quite what we think. Here are 10 reasons why Andy and Leslie might not be friends at all.

10 Holding April Back

Leslie has always wanted to protect April, much like Ron has. They see themselves as parents to her in some way and wish her all the best in her future. They can see that she has a lot of potential to do great things and that Andy might actually hold her back.

Andy is always kindhearted and means well, but he might be changing April's path for the worse. She can achieve a lot of things, but something about Andy could make her want to be lazy or not ambitious. Leslie is always worried about that relationship.

9 Moving Too Fast

When April and Andy were set to be married, Leslie wanted to stop the whole event because she felt like they were moving too quickly. In fact, she might have ruined the relationship if she had got her way in order to protect April.

This isn't exactly a friendly thing to do, and shows that Leslie will always prioritize April over Andy. Any true friend would not break up a wedding that would make both people involved incredibly happy, presumably for the rest of their lives.

8 Doesn't Understand Andy

Andy is a completely different type of person than those Leslie normally deals with. She's used to professionals and people of a certain intelligence, and Andy wouldn't be someone she would spend time with.

Their idea of fun is also completely different as well. While Leslie is obsessed with government and is passionate about her job, Andy doesn't really know what he's doing with himself. This can lead them to clash if he isn't taking things seriously.

7 Advice Only Goes One Way

Leslie is a tree of knowledge and gives out some great advice. She has tried to help Andy out with various problems throughout the series, but he is terrible at returning the favor. Andy's advice is patchy at best.

Unfortunately, Andy doesn't really understand some of the jobs that he is in, and while he does have a good idea now and then, he doesn't bring much to the table in terms of giving his thoughts to Leslie.

6 Bond With Ann

The show started with Ann and Andy dating, which Leslie did not disapproved of at all. As time went on and Leslie has tried to convince them to break up, Leslie and Ann have become even closer.

Leslie will always take the side of Ann over Andy, much like with her relationship with April. This puts Andy at the back of the queue every time, which means that he never really gets to develop a solid friendship with Leslie.

5 Buying Him Off

When Andy was being difficult and pretending that he might try to charge the local government for falling into a hole, Leslie decided to buy him off by offering him the shoe shining job at the council.

It's a job that he got really excited about, but it shows that the supposed friendship was all built on Andy wanting something and Leslie trying to pull the wool over his eyes with a job where he wouldn't be able to achieve as much as if he had sued.

4 Lack Of Emotional Understanding

Andy has very little emotional understanding in high-pressure situations and lacks the knowledge to be able to comfort someone. For instance, when Leslie found out she was pregnant and clearly distressed because she didn't know how Ben would react.

Despite somehow having guessed she was pregnant, Andy still didn't put two and two together. He didn't comfort her at all and just let her go about her business despite the fact that she could have really used a friend at that moment.

3 Unsupported Goals

Andy's goals are a little all over the place and Leslie is very focused on what she wants. While Andy is happy for Leslie's success, he isn't the greatest supporter of her achieving them, and can often even get in the way of what she's trying to do.

Leslie on the other hand doesn't initially think much of Andy or what he wants to achieve. It's clear by the end of the show that she's happy with how Andy turned out, but she shouldn't have supported it after the fact.

2 Poor Assistant

Andy was selected to be Leslie's assistant, a job that he was completely ill-suited for. He's not very professional, has a bad memory, and doesn't really understand all of the intricacies of the job that he's been given.

This also gives his and Leslie's friendship a different dynamic once again, making them more of an assistant and an employee than ever before. This results in their relationship changing a little bit as Andy essentially had to follow everything his friend ordered him to do.

1 Leslie's First Child

Although Leslie ended up having triplets, Andy could always be considered to be her first child as she had to essentially raise him for a time. While he was in the parks and rec department he became a bit of her a son to her.

This is mainly because Leslie had to look after him as he was constantly acting like a kid and getting into trouble. It's difficult for a friendship to form when you're having to mother your friend.
