The television show Boy Meets World ran for seven seasons. It was so popular that a spin-off called Girl Meets World was recently developed, rebooting the series.
Fans loved following these characters through their growth and watching them evolve. Many remember the show as a whole, but fans may be surprised if they re-watched the pilot. Several changes were made that fans may not remember. Here are 5 things that changed from the pilot and 5 that stayed the same.
10 Changed: Actress Who Plays Morgan
One of the most obvious changes that is also often forgotten is that the actress who played Morgan changed! During the first two seasons, Lily Nicksay was the actress who portrayed Morgan.
This young actress faced some difficulty during filming and was replaced by the actress Lindsay Ridgeway who was almost 3 years older than her! The Girl Meets World finale even poked fun at this change, breaking the fourth wall and having both Morgans in the finale.
9 Stayed The Same: Cory Loves Sports
Cory is an avid sports fan and loves the Phillies. In the pilot episode, he gets in trouble for listening to the game during class, but this doesn't deter his love of sports.
When he and Topanga first express romantic interest in each other, she wears his Phillies hat. Cory also talks about wanting to be a Phillie for career day. He is also regularly shown to be playing sports such as basketball and golf.
8 Changed: Cory Dislikes Girls
During the pilot episode, Cory can't understand why everyone around him is so interested in girls. In fact, he seems a bit jealous of their interest in girls as both Shawn and Eric don't spend as much time with him as before.
Cory begins to feel left out but isn't interested in chasing girls. This changes very quickly. In the next few episodes, he begins to show interest in having a relationship, and his love story with Topanga begins.
7 Stayed The Same: Eric Is A Ladies Man
In the pilot episode, Eric is pursuing a girl. He even abandons Cory, choosing to take this new girl on a date to a baseball game instead of taking Cory. When the date doesn't go as well as he hopes, Eric is ready to move on to a new love interest.
Throughout the series, Eric pursues many women with none of them sticking around for very long. This portrayal of Eric as a ladies man began in the pilot episode and continued through the entire show.
6 Changed: Cory's School Performance
During the pilot and much of the first season, Cory doesn't care much about school. He puts in minimal effort and seems happy when he receives a C on a test or assignment.
This begins to change in season 2 with Cory becoming more studious. While he never is the straight-A student, he does put forth more effort and continues his studies by going to college.
5 Stayed The Same: Cory Gets In Trouble
In the pilot episode, Cory gets detention. While he isn't regularly sent to detention throughout the series, he does continue to get himself into difficult or challenging situations.
Much of Boy Meets World is about Cory learning from his mistakes and dealing with the consequences, so it makes sense that he would continue to get into trouble.
4 Changed: Minkus
Minkus is a clever and arrogant nerd who makes his first appearance in the pilot episode. This student can't stand to be wrong and will do anything he can to be the best student in class.
Considering his strong presence in the pilot episode and his reoccurring appearances throughout the first season of Boy Meets World, fans expected Minkus to be a regular character in the series. Unfortunately, this hilarious nerd basically disappears from the show after the first season, only making three appearances in the second season one appearance in season 5 of the show.
3 Stayed The Same: Mr. Feeny
Mr. Feeny is first introduced in the pilot of Boy Meets World. He originally serves as the students' teacher but his lessons aren't confined to the classroom. As a neighbor to Cory, Feeny often becomes invested in his struggles outside of the classroom as well.
When Cory and his friends move to high school, they expect to be done with Feeny only to discover that he is now the principal of the school! Even during their time at college, Feeny continues to appear, providing the motivational quotes for which he is remembered.
2 Changed: Topanga
Ask any Boy Meets World fan who the main characters are and they will name Cory, Shawn, and Topanga. Upon re-watching the pilot, many would be surprised to discover that Topanga is missing!
Though Topanga became one of the most featured characters, even playing a significant role in Girl Meets World, she initially began as a guest star. She makes several appearances in the first season but doesn't become a main character until the second half of season two.
1 Stayed The Same: Shawn And Cory
Shawn and Cory are lifelong best friends. They have their ups and downs but through it all, Cory and Shawn's friendship remains strong. This dynamic is set up in the very first episode of the series.
Even in the pilot, there is some conflict between the peers. But like always, the two reconcile and their struggles bring them closer together.
