Monica Geller is one of the most beloved characters from Friends, and she shows quite a few different personality traits throughout the sitcom's run, from being bossy to her obsession with cleaning. However, Monica is also a very kind character, which helps fans get emotionally invested in her storylines.
Monica had many ups and downs throughout the show as she made her way through life; sometimes she made mistakes that left audiences (and her in-universe friends) mad with her, while other times it was easy to sympathize with the chef.

Because of that, it's hard not to feel sorry for Monica every time they meet each other in the sitcom. Even though Judy doesn't mean to hurt Monica's feelings, she manages to do it consistently, and it always leaves Monica feeling small.
9 Hated Her: Dating Chip
Rachel and Monica have a longstanding history together and because of that, Monica knew all about Chip, one of Rachel's old boyfriends. He didn't treat her particularly well when they were together in school, but because he was the coolest guy around, Monica always dreamed about dating him.
When they met as adults, and Monica had lost weight, Chip was interested in her. It proved him to be shallow, yet Monica still went out on a date with Chip even though Rachel didn't want her to do it.
8 Felt Bad: Breaking Up With Richard
While everyone loves the relationship between Chandler and Monica, as they are arguably the best couple that Friends ever created, her time with Richard was great as well. This was the early couple that fans fell in love with, as Monica and Richard were great together.
Their break up was a very sad moment, as they clearly still loved each other but just could not make it work. They wanted different things in life and made a mutual decision to call time on their relationship.
7 Hated Her: Problems With The Maid
This was one of Monica's lowest moments and it highlighted just how bad she could be with boundaries or keeping things to herself. Fearing that her maid had stolen her jeans, Monica decided to literally put her head between the woman's legs to look for a stain.
It was literal harassment and was all due to the maid having similar clothes. During this whole fiasco, Monica showed no ability to communicate or act like an adult.
6 Felt Bad: Her Closet Secret
One of Monica's main characteristics is her neatness. She takes things very seriously and needs things to be perfect; while she can take things too far, neatness is something that means a lot to her. So when Chandler opens the secret closet in her apartment, it leads to a moment of pure embarrassment for Monica.
While the moment was brushed off as a joke during the show, it made people feel bad for Monica as she was just left stunned after her secret was revealed.
5 Hated Her: Opening The Wedding Presents
Monica and Chandler's wedding was a huge deal, and the two of them put in tons of effort to make it perfect. However, Monica's controlling attitude went too far during this period.
This was particularly true after the wedding when Monica made the decision to open up every single present without Chandler being present. This was a low point for the character and made Monica somewhat unlikable during a significant period in the character's story.
4 Felt Bad: Fat Monica
While the old clips of Monica when she was larger always showed her in a positive light, she was often very sad during those days. Monica was consistently made fun of, something even the show's core group did when she was older and had dropped the weight.
Even though Monica manages to brush it off most of the time, it's hard not to feel bad for her when she is constantly being mocked. Monica might have lost weight throughout her life, but the past still haunts her and it is a shame to see.
3 Hated Her: Control Of Phoebe's Wedding
Monica loves to be in control of things and her organizational skills really are superb. However, combine that with the usually relaxed and mellow Phoebe and it is a recipe for disaster, especially when it involved the latter's wedding.
Monica was in charge of the event at Central Perk, and while it was nice that she wanted to help make Phoebe's day special, she also nearly ruined it. With Monica's headset and bossiness, she did not come across as that considerate of a friend.
2 Felt Bad: Can't Have Children
All throughout Friends, Monica always strives to be a mother. It is clear from day one that having children is one of her main goals; after all, it was the reason Monica broke up with Richard. So when she was married to Chandler, it seemed like the logical next step.
However, in one of the show's most heartbreaking moments, the couple learns that they cannot have children. This revelation was devastating for both Monica and everyone watching Friends.
1 Hated Her: Phoebe & The Dollhouse
Monica is very set in her ways and doesn't like things to be messed with, so when she gets her dollhouse, it is perfect for her. She can set everything neatly and the way she likes, which becomes a problem when Phoebe wants to get involved.
Having never had a dollhouse as a child, Phoebe goes crazy for it. As expected, Phoebe takes an alternative creative route, bringing dinosaurs into the mix. Instead of being a kind friend, Monica just stops letting Phoebe use her dollhouse.
