Game of Thrones' Beasts, Pets & Animals, Ranked | ScreenRant

There is a lot of cause for debate when it comes to the beasts, pets and animals in Game of Thrones. With just over 70 episodes in total and eight seasons, the mythical world that George R. R. Martin created all those many years ago has taken advantage of the best CGI that HBO was able to use to give fans of the show some incredible beings.

Some of these beings are a bit more deadly than others, shall we say. Here's the Game of Thrones beasts, pets and animals ranked from worst to best:

10 The Bear Pit

During the latter stages of season 3, Brienne of Tarth is held captive and thrown into a pit with a huge grizzly bear, in a fight to the death-style event. The bear gets a decent scratch at Brienne before she is saved by Jamie Lannister, who himself only has one hand.

If a gigantic grizzly bear can't eat a couple of downed humans when trapped in a pit with them, it's not going to last very long against some of the other Game of Thrones beasts. This is why, undoubtedly, the grizzly bear from season 3 episode 7 is the worst animal in Game of Thrones.

9 Ravens

Apart from being useful for Bran to see where the Night King and his army is, the Ravens are merely just Game of Thrones' version of the Harry Potter owl.

Countless times throughout the series do we hear 'send a raven' -- so much so that it's even become a meme. Ravens are used to deliver information across Westeros and beyond, but doesn't really have anything in its arsenal when it comes to being deadly.

8 Manticore

A lesser-known being in the Game of Thrones catalog is the Manticore. A Manticore is a scorpion-like insect that sort of looks like it could be from the spider family … or lobster. They are used as assassination weapons in Essos as their venom is deadly.

The Manticore features on screen in season 3 when Daenerys Targaryen has an assignation attempt on her by someone belonging to the Warlocks of Qarth. The venom from the Manticore is also used by Oberyn Martell when he fights The Mountain and is the reason The Mountain was so heavily wounded after the fight.

7 Ramsay's Dogs

One of the trademarked Bolton house attacks was 'flaying'. We never actually see how the infamous Ramsay Bolton finishes off his victims of said flaying, but his beloved flesh-eating hounds probably have something to do with it.

The dogs themselves are pretty brutal, Ramsay frequently feeds them the enemies that cross his path, and in the end, the dogs actually end up eating Ramsay themselves, as his plan in Battle of the Bastards falls apart.

6 Children Of The Forest

The Children of the Forest are classed in Game of Thrones as non-human, so they have to be included on our list of beasts. The Children of the Forest are apparently the first beings to set foot on Westeros and are the creators of the Night King.

They created the Night King in the hope of stopping the First Men from taking over Westeros, but clearly, their plan wasn't the wisest one. They featured in the TV series when Bran Stark and his clan encounter the Three-Eyed Raven, who the Children protect. The Children are all killed protecting Bran and his friends, however, they certainly put up a fight and are some of the strongest Game of Thrones beings.

5 Snow Bear

In an episode that saw many of the series' best characters venture north of the wall in the hope of bringing back something to show the rest of Westeros what threat they faced, the team encountered the Snow Bear. The Snow Bear is a special species of bear only found beyond the wall. They have bright blue eyes (like a White Walker) and are very powerful.

In season 7, the Bear kills a number of the tribe that went beyond the wall and seriously injured the Thoros of Myr, who would later die from his wounds. The Snow Bear is eventually killed by Dragonglass, which would suggest that it had been in contact with the White Walkers.

4 Direwolves

The Direwolves in Game of Thrones are given to each Stark offspring when they are young. They are wedded to their owner and are there to protect them from danger, because as we know, Starks are forever in danger.

Although four of the six Direwolves die in Game of Thrones, they all take part in some of the most important battles. Jon's Direwolf, Ghost, is heavily involved in the final battle against the Night King's army of dead, and the Direwolves' loyalty is one of the reasons why they are some of the best animals in Game of Thrones.

3 Wun Wun The Giant

Full name Wun Weg Wun Dar Wun, the Free Folk giant made his debut in one of the best TV episodes (not just Game of Thrones) ever, 'Hardhome'. Wun Wun fights off dozens of White Walkers, ripping them apart and protecting the Free Folk.

Wun Wun is a true battle hero and definitely deserved to live a bit longer than he did. He was killed in the iconic 'Battle of the Bastards' when Ramsay Bolton puts an arrow through the giant's eye.

2 Ice Dragon

In 'Beyond the Wall' in season 7 episode 6, one of Daenerys' three dragons is killed when the Night King launches his spear at it as the group try and escape the frozen lake. The Night King manages to resurrect the dragon (Viserion) and turns it into the Ice Dragon.

Viserion switched sides under the Night King's control and becomes so powerful that he eventually takes down the wall protecting Westeros from the north, a wall that stood for thousands of years.

1 Dragons

Drogon, Rhaegal and Viserion are the three dragons that feature throughout all eight seasons of Game of Thrones. Just as the show grew in popularity, these dragons grew in size and power, and by the final few seasons, they were guilty of causing some of the biggest atrocities in Game of Thrones history.

The true power of these dragons can be seen most in the penultimate episode of Game of Thrones season 8, when the last remaining dragon, Drogon, unleashes havoc on Kings Landing, burning alive thousands of innocent people. For this reason, the dragons are definitely the best and most powerful Game of Thrones beasts/pets/animals.
