Grant Gustin Wants The Flash Costume To Get Comic Accurate Gold Boots

Grant Gustin, who plays Barry Allen on The Flash, wants the comic book gold boots on the costume. The Scarlet Speedster's sixth season is about to conclude, though earlier than originally expected. This week's episode featured the return of Godspeed, and the upcoming finale will have Barry planning to save Iris from the mirror world.

Since its premiere, The Flash has remained a very popular show, even usurping Arrow's reign on The CW. There are numerous key differences between the two shows. Arrow was something of a crime thriller; super powers and the like were nonexistent at first. On the flip side, The Flash felt like a comic book come to life. The characters in the first season, from Firestorm to Gorilla Grodd, stepped right out of the page. Of course, one of the aspects contributing to this comic book atmosphere is Barry Allen's costume. Although similar to one another, the costumes have changed over the course of six seasons. The original one had the red circle for the logo. Season 2 swapped the red for the classic comic book white. The latest costume is more in line with the New 52 version. However, despite the costumes being fairly accurate to the comics, there is one aspect absent from all of them: the gold boots.

In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Grant Gustin talked about The Flash ending early, the current plotline with Iris, and more. One of the questions brought to Gustin was what he would still like to see on the costume. His response was the gold boots.

Gold boots. We have the lightning at the top of the red boots - that is kind of like the wing / lightning at the top - but that’s really the only thing we're missing for it to be, pretty much, the complete comic book look. The suit that we have now essentially, but with boots to match the belt and then I feel like we're there.

To date, every CW Flash costume has featured red boots. Interestingly, The CW's version isn't the only take on the character omitting the gold boots. Ezra Miller's Flash costume from Justice League also does not feature comic book accurate boots, as well as John Wesley Shipp's costume from the 1990 show. As for if The CW's version will ever add them, perhaps in season 7, but it's tough to say. Gustin did say negotiations were taking place (before shutdowns) for a potential season 8 and 9 contract extension. Fans will have to wait and see if Barry dons the gold boots before the series concludes.

It will be interesting to see how The Flash season 6 ends, and what will be left open for season 7. Although it's disappointing the season has to end early, fans can nonetheless look forward to apparently one of the biggest battles in the show to date.
