PlayStation Studios' New PS5 Opening Animation Inspired By Marvel

The new logo for Sony's PlayStation Studios took a lot of inspiration from the recent Marvel Cinematic Universe movies. As the Marvel movies have gotten to be more and more popular over the past decade, the logo displayed before the movies has slowly but substantially changed. While the Marvel Studios logo started off as a very simple design, it went on to become a much more animated affair, and began to feature short glimpses of important characters from all the movies in the MCU.

Sony has amassed it's own group of first-party exclusives over the years, and the era of the PlayStation 4 saw many of these popular long-running (and brand-new) franchises finding a massive audience and lots of fan acclaim. While the company has yet to reveal what their plans are in regard to the rumored Sony PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale 2 game which is allegedly being developed for the PlayStation 5, Sony has come up with another way to honor the most well-known characters in their gaming lineup.

Earlier today, Sony unveiled the opening animation for PlayStation Studios on YouTube. PlayStation Studios is the overarching umbrella under which all of their first-party titles will be developed under, and they seem to be pretty proud of their current franchises already, as the video shows a montage of characters like Aloy from Horizon Zero Dawn, Sackboy from LittleBigPlanet, and Ellie from The Last of Us and The Last of Us Part 2Check out the video below:

Players who are also avid viewers of Marvel's recent comic book movies will understandably notice some similarities between the comic giant's opening logo and the recently-unveiled PlayStation Studios opening animation, and that's likely no coincidence. According to Gamesindustry.biz, Senior Vice President and Head Of Global Marketing at Sony, Eric Lempel, said that there will be different variations of the animation above, and that "We're all huge Marvel fans. One of our biggest games of all time has a Marvel character in it with Spider-Man."

Characters like Ratchet & Clank and Kratos from God of War might also fit right into the world of comic books (with Kratos actually having his own comic book coming out soon detailing his journey between God of War 3 and God of War 2018) but it's nice to see Sony celebrating their own internal developers regardless. If the company is hoping to build a stable full of titles and characters players will love and engage with as much as Marvel fans do with their own favorites, mimicking the popular opening credits for their own PlayStation Studios logo is a pretty good way to start.
