Thor Once Hit Galactus So Hard, He Puked (Literally)

Being both the god of thunder and a founding Avenger, Thor has proven himself as one of the mightiest heroes in Marvel Comics. Throughout his history, Thor has achieved many breathtaking feats -- defeating the Sentry, the most powerful Avenger, and even giving Thanos a fight -- but his most remarkable achievement was hitting Galactus so hard, the eater of worlds lost his lunch.

The incredible moment arrived in Jason Aaron and Esad Ribic's Thor: God of Thunder series, during "The Last Days of Midgard." Readers are presented with Marvel's post-apocalyptic future Earth, inhabited by an elderly King Thor and his three granddaughters. As Thor laments the fact that he couldn’t save the Earth from destruction, a hungry Galactus arrives to devour what’s left of the planet. Giving the god of thunder a chance to balance the scales on behalf of Midgard. And it's a fight Galactus will never forget.

In response to this, Thor commands his granddaughters to leave Earth so he can confront Galactus. At first, he attempts to reason with his foe, but upon revealing that he’s attacking the Earth out of spite as well as hunger, Thor realizes he will have to use force. What follows is a brutal fight that shakes the foundation of the very earth. Annoyed, Galatcus stomps on Thor with his giant foot. Thor quickly escapes... and shoots a concentrated beam of the Thorforce into Galactus’ chest.

Now enraged, Galactus reacts by punching Thor clean through the earth and moon, breaking the later in the process. Both Galactus and Thor continue to trade blows until Thor’s granddaughters return to help in the battle. With Galactus distracted, Thor uses the opportunity to retrieve the god-killing blade known as Necrosword to end the fight. Once he returns, Thor is able to stop Galactus and mysteriously revive the earth from the bloodshed in the battle. It would later be revealed that Thor spared Galactus and gave him the Necrosword, transforming him into an entity known as the Butcher of Worlds.

What’s really incredible about this story is being able to see someone fight Galactus in such an uncommon way. Usually, Galactus is dealt with by outsmarting him or reasoning with him, but Thor had to fight him head-on. It’s also impressive to see how much more powerful Thor becomes once he takes over for Odin. That fact that an elderly version of Thor was able to hit a cosmic entity like Galactus so hard that he spewed his lunch makes this story an unforgettable moment in the history of Thor comics.
