Cyberpunk 2077's Pacifica District Is a Failed Resort & Crime Haven

Cyberpunk 2077’s Pacifica District is a failed resort and crime haven. CD Projekt Red has been gradually releasing concept art and screenshots of the game’s various districts as Cyberpunk 2077 approaches its November 19, 2020 release date. Fitting the game’s steampunk atmosphere, Night City’s various areas appear simultaneously sprawling, cluttered, and beautiful yet ramshackle.

Following multiple delays to the release date, CD Projekt Red has tried to satiate fans’ impatience and curiosity by revealing their artistic prowess as well as some of the game’s mechanics and story elements. One unveiling conveys the idea that players can beat beat Cyberpunk 2077 without finishing the main quest. In conjunction with the various concept artwork and gameplay tidbits, Cyberpunk 2077 also lost one of its features - wall-running.

In its latest concept art reveal, CD Projekt Red took to Twitter and unveiled Cyberpunk 2077’s Pacifica District, which is a failed resort and crime haven. The post claims “the district is overrun by gangs and violence,” suggesting players will have to keep on their toes when they venture into the area. The two pictures highlight the crumbling area, with the second photo providing a closer look at the rundown streets and buildings, with a person wielding a gun navigating the terrain.

CD Projekt Red’s newest project has a lot of weight on its shoulders, competing primarily with the company’s previous, critically-acclaimed title, The Witcher III: Wild Hunt. The Witcher franchise told one of the best tales in modern gaming, and if Cyberpunk 2077 wants to stand alongside that genre titan, it will have to prove to be more than worth the wait and not just live up to the hype, but exceed it. Concept art is all well and good, but unless the in-game manifestation of such renderings accurately represents what was teased, or perhaps improves upon it, it does little to contribute to - or take away from - the game’s potential.

Gamers are a demanding collective; they know what they want, and they expect to get it. Anytime a developer falls short of expectations, their fans are not shy about letting them hear it. Judging by CD Projekt Red’s track record, however, Cyberpunk 2077 is in good hands. Despite the various delays, the game has a lot of potential, and CD Projekt Red’s relatively consistent updates and teases bode well for transparency and quality control. Unless they drop the ball hardcore by the time November rolls around, Cyberpunk 2077 stands a chance of something more than a lukewarm reception.
