What The Cast Of Netflix’s 365 Days Has To Say About The Movie

365 Days found huge success on Netflix for all the wrong reasons. It’s based on 365 Dni, the first book in an erotic trilogy written by Blanka Lipińska. The story follows Laura Biel (Anna-Maria Sieklucka) after she is abducted in Italy by her obsessed admirer, Massimo Torricelli (Michele Morrone).

Since the film’s release, it has been hit with heavy criticism for its romanticization of abuse, rape, and kidnapping. Disturbed viewers have even started a petition to have the film removed from Netflix completely. Some cast members have also stepped forward to give their own perspectives on the film.

10 The Sex Scenes Were Not Real

The explicit nature of the sex scenes in 365 Days had fans convinced they were real. Frequent questions regarding this topic caused Morrone to come out and say that this would be “impossible,” in part because Sieklucka is already in a committed relationship with Polish director, Lukasz Witt-Michalowski.

In an Instagram Live, Morrone explained that “it seems like real because we are good actors.” Fans desperate to believe that Sieklucka and Morrone are in a relationship still refuse to take his word for it.

9 The Airplane Scene Was A Challenge

After receiving bad news on a private flight, Massimo heads to the back with the flight attendant to engage in a sexual act. Prosthetics were used to make the scene feel real without requiring actual contact.

Morrone said, in an interview, “It was awkward, but it was funny.” He was given so little time to warm up to the actress that by the filming of this interview, he was unable to recall her name. The scene got tougher when the rest of the crew began to laugh. Morrone explained, “As soon as they were starting, I was laughing as well.”

8 They Were Forced To Be Friends

Acting out such intimate scenes required the actors to get close. Morrone told Plotek, "Basically we were forced to be friends, but in fact, we became friends for real.” Relationships often come out of movies like these.

Morrone and Sieklucka have been careful to label things as platonic.
The authenticity of their friendship has been put on display in their series of Instagram Lives. There is little direct promotion of their movie during these streaming events. Instead, the time is filled with relaxed banter between friends and answers to viewer questions about their personal lives.

7 Playing Laura Made Sieklucka Emotional

Sieklucka's previous TV role was small and short-lived and it didn’t require the same depth of character as Laura Biel. While on a press tour, Sieklucka said, “The biggest surprise while working on this film was related to the emotions inside me, which I had to bring out.”

This isn’t as shocking from the perspective of a viewer. Sieklucka plays a character who is falling in love with her own kidnapper. Balancing fear and passion directed at the same man is a lot for one actor to handle.

6 Morrone Admits Massimo Is No Role Model

Consent is a foreign concept to Massimo. All of his interactions with women are aggressive if not abusive. Morrone told Plotek, “I hope that a lot of people … will not think that I treat women in that way.”

The actor went on to say that he needs fans to understand that Michele Morrone, gardener and father of two, is not the same person as Massimo Torricelli. It may be a little too late for this. Fans have already started to see him as the man he plays on screen.

5 Sieklucka Almost Didn't Play Laura

One read of the script was enough to scare Sieklucka off. She said to Newseria Lifestyle, “I hesitated because it is a very strong subject and my debut.” A guest appearance on the show Na dobre i na złe had been her only on-screen experience at the time. Assurances from the production crew helped her to change her mind.

The decision turned out to be the right one. Appearing in such a controversial film has skyrocketed Sieklucka into stardom. She has gone from being a complete unknown to an international celebrity.

4 Sieklucka Spoiled The Sequel

Spoiler alert: the ambiguous ending of 365 Days leaves Laura’s fate ambiguous. Sieklucka and Magdalena Lamparska, the actress who played Laura’s best friend, went live on Instagram for a Q&A. When asked about the start of filming for the sequel, Sieklucka said, “We will not be able to go abroad to shoot this year because of the pandemic.”

This confirmed that Laura is alive and in the next film. The books, which the movies are based on, back this up. Laura is a central character in all three installments of the trilogy.

3 It’s Nothing Like Fifty Shades Of Grey

365 Days is constantly compared to Fifty Shades of Grey. It’s a fair comparison to make since the author has said that while the series is "one of the [worst] in the genre," it did inspire her to write her own trilogy. However, Morrone told Plotek that “it’s not the same story. Absolutely not."

The differences between the two movies go beyond the plot. Morrone went on to claim that 365 Days is more faithful to the book. Fifty Shades of Grey had to be watered down for American audiences. The makers of 365 Days didn't have to deal with any such restrictions.

2 Laura Taught Massimo To "Love"

When asked what Laura and Massimo learn from falling in love, Morrone said, “Actually ... in your question, there was the answer: love." It’s an interesting answer for Morrone to give since critics have called Massimo’s form of love abuse.

Massimo wins Laura over by forcing himself onto her until she gives up. Her feelings towards Massimo are believed to be the result of Stockholm Syndrome. The true lesson Massimo learns is that kidnapping is an effective form of modern dating in the 365 Days universe, which is questionable, at best.

1 Sieklucka Is Much Shyer Than Laura

Shyness is not what we'd expect of the woman playing Laura. The character exudes confidence and enjoys a bit of exhibitionism. However, Sieklucka, the actor portraying her, said “One of the most difficult experiences was to overcome shyness ..."

Her true personality is more obvious in the interviews and Q&As she does with her costar. Morrone does most of the talking. In one Instagram Live, Morrone advised the audience to ask him questions before Laura for this exact reason.
