Even if Sutton Foster's character Liza Miller wasn't pretending to be in her twenties on Younger, she would still feel like a very youthful person. She doesn't subscribe to the idea that getting married and raising kids in the suburbs is the only way to be a grown-up, and she doesn't even want to be a grown-up at all. She would rather follow her publishing dreams than act her age, which is a good thing for fans of the show as it makes for a fascinating six seasons.
Liza is a great main character as she's just as flawed as any human being, and her good and bad personality traits make for some funny and sad storylines. Younger definitely wouldn't be as addictive to watch if she was a duller person.
10 Best: Humble
Whether talking to her love interests Josh (Nico Tortorella) and Charles (Peter Hermann) or best pals Maggie (Debi Mazar) and Kelsey (Hilary Duff), Liza always acts humble.
She's willing to be an assistant even though she's much older than most people who hold those jobs, and she barely flinches when her boss Diana (Miriam Shor) doesn't treat her very well at the beginning of the series. She knows she has to pay her dues.
9 Worst: Easily Stressed Out
Being a millennial is enough for millennials to stress out about, so Liza has given herself quite the task in pretending to be a different age. She gets stressed out really easily, which is definitely one of her worst traits.
Liza is often seen stewing about her personal problems at work. In more than one scene, she's taking deep breaths, trying to calm herself down.
8 Best: Loyal
Liza is a great friend to well-dressed Kelsey and the other people whom she comes into contact with as a result of her new life. Loyalty is one of her best personality traits, and she displays it all the time.
From caring about her ex Josh becoming a father to wanting to stick by Kelsey with Millennial Print, Liza goes to bat every day for the people she loves.
7 Worst: A Worrier
Liza can definitely worry too much, especially when it comes to her relationship with Josh. The couple experiences some truly romantic moments and yet Liza is often too anxious to enjoy any of them. It makes sense that she would have a lot on her mind, but she has a lot of trouble living in the moment, and she could probably benefit from a yoga class or trying meditation.
6 Best: Well-Read
Liza is one of the smartest characters on this show and she's very well-read. This is something that gives her an advantage since even though she's young (or so everyone thinks) and doesn't have a lot of publishing experience, she's got a literary background to draw from.
Even though Liza doesn't know how to use social media, her love of books does get her out of many sticky situations, and it allows her to keep going on her path.
5 Worst: Traditional
Liza is a fairly traditional person, which seems to be one reason why she thinks she should be with Charles.
Although she is divorced and has said goodbye to the life that she thought she would lead forever, Liza has trouble thinking that she could be with Josh because she thinks his lifestyle is so different from hers.
4 Best: Flexible
One of Liza's best traits is her flexibility. She adapts to the new situation of being a millennial and really rides out the journey. From traveling for work to various book fairs and events to listening to potential authors pitch their books, Liza takes on new challenges with a positive attitude.
3 Worst: Self-Sabotaging
Even though Josh is interesting and artistic, Liza can't bring herself to decide if she would really be content to commit to him. She self-sabotages, and this is one of her worst traits.
Instead of admitting that it's okay to stray from an expected path (which is what she's doing, anyway), she holds onto the idea that Charles is a better partner for her because he's older. But this doesn't really seem to work since in the season 6 finale, she's grappling with whether she loves Josh.
2 Best: A Caring Mother
Liza is a phenomenal mother and always cares about her daughter Caitlin (Tessa Albertson), especially when she's studying abroad.
When Kelsey sees Liza go through a health crisis with Caitlin, she forgives her for lying and realizes what fans of Younger know: Liza would do anything to protect her kid and make her happy.
1 Worst: Shy
Another one of Liza's worst traits is how shy she can be. This is especially obvious in contrast to Kelsey and Lauren (Molly Bernard).
Of course people are different and not everyone is going to be bold and confident every day, but Liza's shy nature can sometimes get in the way of her happiness.
