Indian Matchmaking: What Happened To Shekar After The Show?

On Netflix's Indian Matchmaking, Shekar Jayaraman managed to impress not one but two girls. But after fans thought that the stars aligned for him and Nadia Jaggesar, Sima Taparia’s efforts went to waste. While both Nadia and Shekar's previous date Aparna have moved on and become celebrities in their own right, Shekar is still surrounded by mystery. Indian Matchmaking fans are curious to know what the Chicago lawyer has been up to, and here are all the answers.

Netflix’s reality show Indian Matchmaking showcased dating differently. While the show involved modern singles, the approach they took towards finding love was a traditional Indian one. Mumbai’s top matchmaker Sima Taparia set out and matched these lonesome characters, but sadly none of them seemed to work out. The show, however, skyrocketed to stardom. One of the bachelors on the show was thriving 34-year-old lawyer Shekar Jayaraman, who went out on dates with Aparna Shewakramani and Nadia Jaggesar. Things with Nadia seemed to indicate a happy ending, but Shekar didn’t end up with arranged marriage success. So, how has life been for Shekar after the show, and is he still single? The ladies want to know and Shekar revealed it all.

The charming Shekar, who was born and brought up in Cincinnati, Ohio spoke to Zarna Garg on her Instagram and answered a few burning questions. When asked about his reaction to the fame he found on Indian Matchmaking, Shekar thanked his admirers for their support and revealed that he “was sitting in court on the day of the release.” In an interview with CST, Shekar said how he heard about the Netflix show through a friend and applied for it because, as a single guy in Chicago, “it was something new to try.” He confessed to having been on dating apps and even met girls through his parents, but nothing seemed to work out. Indian Matchmaking gave him “a new avenue to explore.

Shekar also revealed that he wasn't told about Nadia’s mother being at his Chicago River boat tour date until the last minute! “Nadia’s mom is wonderful but I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t nervous,” the lawyer added. Shekar revealed that he’s in touch with plenty of his other castmates, and even has a group with Dilip and Jay. Describing his experience on the dating show as “wild,” Shekar confessed that he didn’t know about Bolivia’s Salt Flats and was secretly glad the topic didn’t pop up during the conversation. Shekar’s opinion on the show having a bias towards men is that Indian Matchmaking is in fact, “revealing the realities.” According to him, India does have an issue with colorism and casteism that needs to be addressed. The Netflix show is a “docuseries” doing its bit by portraying it, “for better or for worse.

Answering the most important question of the hour, Shekar revealed that he is still single. He proclaimed that he’s open to even dating long distance, and his choice is not restricted to someone who’s Indian. Shekar noted that he wants someone who would add a balance to his life and be there for him after a rough day. He also added how he wants his special someone to be fashion-forward and prioritize both mental and physical health.

So far, Shekar has been one of the men from Indian Matchmaking who didn’t really go into the details about his life after the show. Although he wasn’t one of the lead singles on the reality series, he did win his dates and fans over with charm and simplicity. Fans would love to see him come back for a season two. Shekar would also like to return to the series, but harbors hopes of having found his special someone by then.
